he did exactly what you wanted him to do and got lucky. you can't bemoan his play that much he has a good hand and wasn't good enough to recognise you had a big pair.

I had a guy slow play KK vs my AQ at Notts yesterday. UTG raises 3 x bb I flat called, he flat called. Flop Q22, I bet 3/4 pot he calls, other guy folds. 9 on turn I go allin. He goes in tank and calls showing KK (He reckoned he put me on QQ, though why he called in that case I don't know!). Ace on river cue a few choice words. He had me well and truely trapped but sh** happens. the vast majority of the time that Ace don't come and you get paid off.

Your opponent's one quarter of the pot bet on the flop would have me scratching my head.

We know he's got a hand (or at least he thinks he does!) as he called your pre-flop re-raise. Why is he apparently unconcerned by the diamond flush draw?

He may have AK (or AQ?) and missed the flop and is ready to fold to any raise.

A big pair (including JJ) would probably bet more to ensure you would be wrong to draw to the flush especially as you might have overcard outs in addition.

A single J plus big or connecting card? Fine, bring it on!

Big diamond connectors are certainly possible in principle, but  is on the board and  is in your hand. However,       has 14 clean outs (although from his perspective it could be fewer). When he just flat calls your raise,  this would tend to confirm this as a distinct possibility.

When no diamond comes on the turn and he checks  you have to push. If he was gambling with JJ/KK/AA, then so be it. I have no idea why he thought AJ was sufficient to call here.Folding is an unpleasant option for him, sure, but he would still have 30+ times the BB.

Would he have called a push on the flop? Who knows? A push at that stage is riskier for you if my fear of            is reasonable.

My conclusion FWIW - there was nothing wrong with your play. He was lucky.

TK,

I put my amateurish thoughts up on this forum for two reasons:

1. To be ripped to shreds, and thereby learn something I would have missed;

2. err....thats it  scared

Muppets that can't fold TPTK after being told they are behind should be welcomed with open arms. That said i think your reraise on the flop should have been the lot, makiing it just 300 more wont do the job against this type of player . You really have to shout to tell them they are behind.
