I saw this old picture of Hinckley. It fascinated me so much. The shops, the car, the little girl on the pavement, (Strange to think that by the time I saw this pic, she had lived her life.

I went out and tried to take a modern picture of the same view, (not as easy as it looks)


Stunning comparision.

Only one building (the Church excepted) remains "as was".

Note the awnings over the shop windows, every shop had one.

Bill Bryson, in one of his books, noted how, these days, most every Town Centre in the "modern world" looks identical. A KFC, McDonalds, Tesco, PC World, da de da.

There are still some traditional Town Centres though, I saw a bunch of them in North Yorkshire recently.
