Star Wars - help required
«
on:

My son is 6 in a couple of weeks and everyone in his class is now into Star Wars. My son has not seen a Star Wars film but already knows all about Luke Skywalker, Jedi Knights etc etc.
I have splashed out on a DVD set for him that includes the following -
EPISODE I - PHANTOM MENACE
EPISODE II - ATTACK OF THE CLONES
EPISODE III - REVENGE OF THE SITH
EPISODE IV - A NEW HOPE
EPISODE V - EMPIRE STRIKES BACK
EPISODE VI - RETURN OF THE JEDI
The question is though in what order should I let him watch the films !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And why?

I would let him watch them in the order they were made. Otherwise he'd watch eps 1, 2 & 3 and be disappointed in 4, 5 & 6.

Oh, I don't know. My 5+6 YO boys like 1-3. They're young. Lucas did seem to aim them at that age after all. I'll learn 'em someday
. I was worried that ep3 is quite graphic with lots of killing and Anakin kind of getting burnt alive (lovely), but didn't seem to phase them.
Once they've seen the films, get them on the Lego Star Wars games (on just about any platform going). Mine love it. They've even managed to get the complete money fountain on the original trilogy game. Which is nice.
To answer the original question though, I'd echo Mr.T. 4-6 then 1-3. Dunno why, just seems sensible.

Start with the first one, I mean fourth one, ehh, the one where the Death Star gets it at the end from Luke in the X wing fighter.

Start them on the meat and vegeatbles, the original trilogy.
The prequels, cheap ice cream topped with hundreds and thousands and chocolate sprinkles, the kids will still love, but save it for dessert.

Order in which they were made. The original Stars Wars is the best standalone film anyway so it will keep him entertained to begin with.
More than anything though, after the first two new ones, I said to myself "this is too fancy and high tech, how the hell are they going to get this back round to the original Star Wars?" but by the final one where he becomes Darth Vader I was convinced. The last 20 minutes of the Revenge if the Sith was amazing and answered all the unanswered questions, I had goosebumps and you cant deny your boy that (i was pushing 30 at the time, maybe you should make him wait 3 years + between films)
I dont know much about parenting but I think a combination of this and forcing him to play a proper sport makes you Father of the year imo

Yes, the final part of Sith was tremendous, it showed up the rest of the prequels for the merchandising adverts they were.
Admittedly it helped that, because we know what state the Jedi are in at the start of Star Wars, we knew that Sith had to have a dark ending.

Were we watching the same film?
Oh, Mr Emperor, you're an evil Sith Lord and have been behind all the shennanigans all along. I'm going to arrest you and send you down, you nasty man. Oh wait, you say you can stop my dreams of Amidala dying come true? And despite being the master of deceit I should totally believe you? Oh, in that case, I'll do your every whim, including slaughtering loads of little Jedi children, the naughty scamps.

Dude, he's 6, not a film critic. Watch them in episode order I say. At least he'll have a chance of following what's going on that way. Phantom Menace is god awful though, except for the double-ended light sabers. Woot woot!

You only get the goose bumps because you've waited 25 years to see it.
If you can make your lad wait a long while then he'll get the same benefit but otherwise I think it's best to watch them in order 1 to 6.
The lack of cgi might make 4 - 6 a bit pants but the superior stories will more than make up for it.

I knew this was not going to be a straightforward choice.
I can see lots of reasons to go either way but still cant make up my mind.
Perhaps I should ask my Lad what he thinks
Thanks for the input

Its got to be in the order of making, the first 3 films are in the top 10 films ever made.
