So shocked by this news. Meeting Brendan was one of those truly humbling experiences when you realise things aren't so bad for you after all. His positive attitiude to life was so inspiring.
I remember the weekend (can't recall now if it was a blonde bash or APAT event) where he had 'a surprise' for us - and he walked into the casino on crutches, the first time we'd seen him without his wheelchair. Witnessing it was truly something special.
Rest in peace, Brendan. You will be missed.

I went racing at Sandown today, was waiting on the train station when my phone rang. It was Tom, Brendans son, who broke the news to me. Words are not enough to describe how this man inspired so many of us - I can't believe he's gone, he;s been to the well so many times but Brendan always beat the odds.
RIP my friend, I'll miss you so much.

That was the APAT Welsh event in early 2007.
This was Brendan playing at the Vic a little over two weeks ago.
Brendan's review...
"Great Day,at the good old vic. It was like re-discovering an old girlfriend, who you'd left behind, has got all toned up,and was out to imprese.
The dealers were supearb,Dana couldn't do enough to help me,what a star she is.
The whole Apat crew attended to everything with the style we've grown to love. The hardbitten old pros behind their mounrians of cash chips, marvelled at all this new meat, but us Apater's cash players held our end up.
The drinks flowed, friendshhips were renewed, there seemed to be a real good vibe last night.......the best Apat yet,all week, roll on season 3.
Good luck to all those left in,have fun, enjoy the ride."

that was special to see him walk.
then the next day he asked kev and myself to operate the wheelchair lift so he could get down from one level of the casino to the other.
me and kev looked at each other and said simultanously " fuck off brendan you can walk now do it yourself!" lmao brendans face was a picture, the cheeky grin he always carried spread across his face as he see the funny side as he always did.

Unfortunately I never had the pleasure of meeting Brendan but judging by all the comments on this thread he was a good and well respected man who touched all who met him.
My condolences go out to his family and all who knew him.
RIP

LOL yeah that was a great moment ... The day before when he walked in was amazing ... a room full of big butch poker players fighting back tears and swallowing hard . great memories.

I only had the pleasure of meeting and conversing with Bredan three times but he ALWAYS spoke about his family first ... a lovely man who always seemed to have his priorities in the right order.
RIP my lil chocolate buddy

i opened up blonde tonight and saw this thread title, and thought, aw whats he bloody won now! Truly saddened by this news. I had the pleasure of his company on several occasions, most memorably where we were seated together at the apat final in dublin last year. down to his last 20000 chips, he fought back brilliantly to finish runner up. I vivdly remember his table talk and the crack about Jeniffer Tilly.
I was amazed at his physical fortitude - that final table was a real slog, and for a man so apparantly weak and frail he had the heart and soul of a lion.
