My Favorite Movies
The film I could watch every day is The Fifth Element
Bruce Willis, Milla Jovochick, and Chris Tucker doing his Ruubbeeey red routine
Gary Oldman is ace as the baddy demonstrating the ultimate assault rifle
And Ian Holm as the quiet monk
Other movies I like are;
Batman Begins
Gladiator because of the music, and I knew all the Extras in it
And The Dark Knight,
Dark City , with Jennifer Connelly
/post imo

found an old poker report from 2005
Trip Report in Poker magazine
Cavendish Classic 2005
Paul "Actionjack" Jackson
26 Apr 2005
A few faces were there including Julian Thew (is older than he looks), Tony Kendall (is as old as he looks) and Carlo Citrone (nice suntan). When we arrived at the club we see a satellite for the main event with 3 left including Julian Thew and his granddad Tony Kendall. Naturally it was assumed a certain amount of soft play might occur, on the basis that if Julian was too rough his granddad might not take him to the park to feed the ducks, but consistent with his normal straight playing when old granddad went all in Julian called him with J 3 off suit and knocked him out. Tony walked off looking for his pipe and slippers muttering J3 off suit to himself and something about ducks, or at least it sounded like ducks.

The Loss of C B Radio
Before the internet got going and there were no such things as E mails, the only way pals could chat was on the radio, or the telephone.
In the early 1980's the English CB band was 20 channels around 27.800 Mhz, from 27.600 up to nearly 28.000Mhz
Anyone over 18 could pay 15 pounds for a Licence to transmit and receive. About this time , hand held CB sets became available from
any good Radio shack ,like Tandy, even Argos sold them. Home Bases were much rarer, and a valued items.
Soon the channels were flooded with teenagers playing music all day, thinking they were a music radio station.
The calling channel was 19, where "Breakers" could make contact with a pal and "Take it "to a new channel for a quiet chat
Radio Clubs started and members met up once a month for a social Bash at their local Social Club
I was a member of Hotel Bravo in Bedfordshire, and we met at Marston Mortaine Social Club
There were many "Characters" on the air and friendships were soon made .
We all had nicknames , like blonde members do now,"Metal Micky, Lovely lady, Aquarius,Bass man Paul"
There was another set of channels called Mid-Block from 27.400 down to 26.800 Mhz
These picked up European CB and did not speak in English
In between these 2 Legal bands were The "sidebanders".
CB used a continuous carrier wave and the speech was added as modulation to the frequency (FM) or much earlier to the amplitude (AM)
Most of the power needed was in making a strong carrier wave.
Side band did not use a carrier wave , they only transmitted the speech part , using far less power
so if you did not speak there was no signal.
This was and still is illegal in UK as the signal is so strong it can interfere with TV signals
The most popular sideband club was Alpha Tango, and every Sunday they would hold contests to get as many contacts as possible
they overlapped the English CB channels and often blanked out our local signals
CB transmitted at 0.5 or 2 watts maximum allowed, the sidebanders used 100 watt boosters
During certain conditions the CB signals would skip between cloud layers and you could pick up people from all over the country
It needed v hot high pressure weather systems, and only worked during the day to work on CB
Sideband however used the upper layers of air and signals would skip all the time.
I "borrowed "a friends sideband set once or twice and made contact with many countries
They sent me a card called a QSL card recording the chat and the signal strength, time and date of contact
I have cards from USA east coast, and from mid Russia in the Urals where the high mountains get out a good signal
Some people had cards from Canada, and even Australia the furthest of all
Every Club had a post office box number to give over the air to the other countries
The club sec picked up the cards once a week from the main Post office
The arrival of the internet killed most of this off
Chat rooms and YouTube have taken over
A PC also gives off a strong signal that blankets out CB signals
So if anyone remembers a CB breaker called "Crazy Tony" who spoke in a very dodgy Italian accent
Please drop me a line
