My missus bought a PS2 yesterday and it only displays in black and white.

It has three colour coded outputs but my TV, which is a relativley new HD one, doesnt have the same coloured ports.

Any ideas? It sucks destroying her at Tekken in black and white

i am guessing that the three colour coded outputs are red white and yellow, and your tv has red green and blue ?

been a while since I looked at a ps2, but what you have is a composite cable and you are trying to plug it into a component video socket(s). this wont work. even if it did the picture quality would be quite poor.
was there no scart cable in the box ? if this is the only cable shipped with the ps2 these days I would make a trip to maplin or somewhere and get something like this :

http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/6122886/PS2-2m-Gold-Plated-Scart-Cable/Product.html?cm_mmc=Froogle-_-Electronics-_-Scart++S-_-PS2%2B(Playstation%2B2)%2B2m%2BGold%2BPlated%2BScart%2BCable&source=5065&engine=froogle_electronics&keyword=PS2+(Playstation+2)+2m+Gold+Plated+Scart+Cable

or for a better picture, get one of these

was either the PS2 or TV bought in the US?

if you try and use PAL (european standard) on a U.S (NSTSC) it will come out black and white.

maybe check if the ps2 is using nstsc setting.
