This thread is rubbish...

Cole is the best English Left back by miles.

Except, there may be another:

Aidan Peter White (born 10 October 1991) is an English footballer who currently plays as a defender for Leeds United. White made his debut for the Leeds first team in a Football League Cup game against Crystal Palace on 26 August 2008,[1] being given a standing ovation from Leeds fans when he was replaced by substitute Bradley Johnson. He started again in the first round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy against Bradford City, gaining the man of the match award and earning more praise from his manager Gary McAllister. White made his league début in the 2-0 win away at Carlisle United (in your eye ChipPrince) on 20 September 2008 and again the local lad received plaudits for his performance.

''16 year old making his debut and performed very well considering. Quite small in size, but tidy enough, took no chances, passed into midfield when he could and cleared sensible. Lasted 60 minutes. Unlikely to start on Saturday, but Sheenan is suspended?  Left foot.''

After Bridge's first-half display, bring back Cole - all is forgiven.

I'd play Barry at left-back.

Top drawer from Emile Heskey for Rooney to finish.  Rooney's been playing well, but was lacking the finish.  He wasn't going to miss that one.

No, I think Cole is.  But he was injured last night, and as Bridge wasn't playing well during the first half (he wasn't alone), I thought subbing him, moving Barry to left-back and then bringing someone else on in midfield would have been a good attacking option against a side I thought we should have beaten comfortably (which we did eventually).  However, I'm not a football manager and Capello has won more trophies than me, so I'm most probably wrong.

But maybe I'll stick to running.

No Bridge. No Barry.
Only disapointing part of the qualifying campagin so far is Bridge being 2nd choice left back.
If you can't get a game for your club you should have no chance getting one for England.
Bridge should move clubs or forget playing for England. Defoe and Crouch both moved to less of a "glamour" club to get games and they are both looking better for it.
If it's not your position you shouldn't play there just because you're versatile.
Richards was left out of one of Capello's squad and put in the U21's because Capello didn't want to pick him as a right back in his squad when he isn't playing there for City.
