I don't think there is too much scope to disagree in terms of ability, but that's not to say it's the order you'd sooner have them in your team or squad. King can't be regarded as a top class defender now imo.

Ability for a defender is more than being able to dribble with the ball.  Organisation, command of the defence, decision-making, reading of the game, etc., are all part of a defender's ability.  In those areas Carragher is top drawer.

In all fairness I think Carragher is a good solid Premiership defender (although Henry did rape him most times) I think had King not had the injuries he has had I think he would be a top class defender.

In all fairness I think Carragher is a world class Premiership defender (has been for many years ) I think had King not had the injuries he has had I think he may have played alot more games and may have shown enough to be comparable to Carra but as it is , its a no contest
