err...what now?

In two recent cash games in which I played, at separate venues in separate time continuum, there was a player at the table who was sticking out like a sore thumb. He would call any raise pre flop with any two cards, massively overbet the pot on the flop out of position, or simply reraise all-in any continuation bet made by a solid player.
On both occasions, this player completely changed the dynamic of the table, turning everyone into timid time capsules waiting for aces or kings. The waiting was punctuated every few hands or so by someone unfortunately taking a stand and running Queens into two pair on a J,4,2 flop. Heads would be shaken, knowing glances exchanged and stifled sighs began to emanate across the table. The pervading thought was, "...poor bugger...but it will be me that catches him out..."
And so it went on, as the maniac's stack grew ever larger.
The difference between the two players was only this - one was so drunk he could hardly stand, and the other was an experienced player playing well within his bankroll and having a ball of a time doing so.
I never got to see how messy it got on either table as I left the drunk guy to annoy everyone else and the second guy stacked me, as of course he was always going to, with such a bizarre holding that I really should have seen it coming. It was late, so I went home, scratching my head and wondering why I had bothered.
Do the blondies have any tips for dealing with this sort of player? And don't say sit somewhere else.

Blatant "I've played against Compo" brag, imo.

You could always come and sit next to me instead. Just be careful if you flop trips...

Yes, indeed. I have filed away that picture on your face as you pushed all-in. You were like a kid in a candy store

If it's the original post the question is one I'm not really expecting an answer to, I was just ruminating and rambling whilst bored and if it's the second one, sorry, just a private bit of banter about a hand Kinboshi and I played at DTD recently.
In fact, if anyone really does have any ideas how to play the maniacs (not kinboshi), then please enlighten us all

Is top pair, decent kicker good enough to call them down on every street (assuming that you're sitting with 100-150bbs)?

I think the problem with these guys is people wait around too long looking for a moster edge against them.
Forget top pair, get it in with second pair and constantly reload if you have to.
Consider the following two possibilities...
Getting it in as a 53% favourite 25 times.
Getting it in as a 75% favourite once.

Depends on board textures and lunatics aggression, i play approx 90/80 when i play PLO in the Rendezvous but i am tight post, yet people still think i am a lunatic, its important to correctly classify your opponent.
According to the OP if you raise pre he will call you then when you bet the flop he will shove, its prett easy to beat someone who does that, you just call when you have a hand.
