not sure if the writing used to be a lot better or i just used to suspend disbelief but this season is a load of very old pony. the plot holes are beyond redic now Sad

Of course the writing used to be better, season 6 was the only slight dip in quality with the Bauer family "mafia"  Grin, but last season the writers were back on form, no way would they have had him stabbed and be completley fine a few mins later like this year...side plots used to be quality aswell, oh well it can only get better...

I agree this season hasn't matched the usual quality of 24,have they changed writers ?

This season should probably be the last,I agree it should finish with a film

jack is in holding/just been sent home/whatever when he finds out that a team's being sent out to kill bad guys.

jack- can I go? can I , please, oh go on? I'm really good with guns and stuff
person in charge- well I don't really trust you and I think you're a bit of a liability but why not, go on then. in fact why don't you lead the operation even though you don't work for us anymore
jack- wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

that's basically 2 episodes of every season written. it's getting a bit old now. should've stopped after 5 when it was still awesome

Abs ridic!, Fox have made millions out of this, and it paved the way for Lost etc...yes its the weakest season, but of course there should be one more...if the writers had actually known it was the last season before, instead of 3/4 way through it could have been an amazing way to go out.

I saw the trailers for Lost, where it advertised it as the last season so the writers obv knew this, surely 24 deserved this treatement!

Have to agree with this post on Imdb:

1) This show has been canceled and episodes filmed so there was no time to write and shoot a proper resolution for Bauer; one befitting 8 seasons of drama.

2) The greedy pucks want to make a feature film now. Do you think they want to make just 1 movie? Hell no. They want a franchise. Therefore, the film will be given such an ending that suggests a possibility for more story to follow. So no character resolution there.

3) These movies will continue until one of them bombs at the box office or performs below expectations. Since each film (including the first) will be made with the hopes of having more films to follow, the last film in the franchise (even if it is the first and only) will have no satisfying character resolution since they didn't know it would bomb and were planning to make more.

4) If (AND I AM NOT JOKING HERE), they decide to kill Jack at the end of the movie and give him an amazing HERO'S ENDING in which he will go out with a bang; and then if this movie is a hit, they will simply make another one. They will use the old Tony trick. I'm not joking. Tony had his artery intentionally missed by a toxic-syringe-wielding killer; Jack will have a cone of protective energy form around him since he was standing at precisely the right point on the nuclear landmine that he surfed out to sea in order to save the city. I'm serious. They'll pull something like this out of their asses and make another film.

Either way, probably no true resolution. The only way I see a satisfying character close is if they put one in the movie and movie flops.
