We're here!  The Vic is currently expecting upwards of 80 players for today's first flight.  Grey skies and the Edgware Road Windchill factor haven't put off the poker travellers, and we're just about to hear the final "Shuffle up and deal" of the 2008 Grosvenor UK Poker Tour...

We'll keep an eye out for all your guys - still no idea who's playing when - but we'll know in about five minutes (except for the late reg.ers in the first two levels).

Seeing as there are lots of predictions out there, here's mine...

I thought Chris played really well at the last tournament I saw him in, EPT Budapest, before succumbing to a rather nasty beat but this could be the tournament where he translates his red-hot online form into live success.

Go the Moomin!

Looking to have 5 £10 bets for the craic..  Starting off with 3 blondes (good a place to start as any imo)

Moorman
Pab
Flushy

Looking for couple of others... Anyone recommed a couple of dark horses, that I may not be familar with...  Dave Penly and Keith Hawkins are on the shortlist at the mo, not that they are really dark horses

james akenhead he really can play

Normally at the GUKPTs there are a smattering of pros mixed in with a relative sea of hopefuls but the Grand Final is no normal GUKPT.

Here, the tables are pro-heavy in the extreme, leading to some interesting table draws.

In an unlilkely turn-up for the books, Chris Moorman and John-Paul Kelly have been matched up in an exciting battle of the Brightonians. Already there has been some verbal sparring...

With JP limping UTG on Chris' big blind, ("Look at this!" Chris exclaimed, flabbergasted by JP's audaciousness...) Ross Boatman in UTG+2 popped it up to 300, only for Moorman to pass and JP...called.

The flop fell and a check from JP elicited a bet of 500 from Ross. "Call" said JP matching the 500.

The turn () and river () were checked down, only for Ross to turn up A-K and JP to turn up a winning 2-2.

"Fish!" mocked Moorman as Kelly swept up the chips gleefully.

"I'm the fish, I should have bet the turn!" said Ross with the merest hint of regret...

is it two day ones? or just 80 runners over 4 days with a slower structure than a normal GUKPT?

On a slightly unrelated note, I was surprised to hear today Gordon Brown is saying that lessons will be learnt from the man in Sheffield who repeatedly raped his daughters over 27 years. Surely he’s not a suitable person to be advising the government.

Yes there are two day ones  and the structure is similar but with 50% more chips (sweet!)

It's anticipated tomorrow will bring in another 100 runners or so, though it will all depend on how many late registrations there are.
