Firstly, this is definitely not a sympathy required post.  I don't post loads on Blonde, but am an avid reader and a supporter when I can (which may be a bit more regular in the short term).

Working for an Asset Based Lender in the subprime market and moving roles earlier in the year from the comfort of a financial controller position to a livelier business development role, meant that the meeting I had yesterday came as no real surprise to me and I'm back in the office tomorrow for a final meeting before being made redundant.

Oh well, I suppose changing job roles earlier in the year with the economy as it was, is a bit like running Kings into Aces, but you always hope it may work out.

It seems a bit weird at the moment, as if it's not really happening, so I thought maybe posting something might clear my head a bit, and I couldn't think of a better place to write it down than on Blonde.

Financially I'm getting looked after for a bit, and I do have something to fall back on career wise, but it's funny how rational thought seems to go out of the window a bit and you have nagging doubts in your head.

I think part of this is brought on by how everyone else around you reacts and assumes how you should react.  I'm pretty much just taking it all in my stride and have already planned out a short term future, which includes taking December off as I've not really had a break this year.  In fact, any holidays this year have comprised of APAT weekends away. (That sounds really bad as I type it - Must book a holiday).

I'm also going to give time to playing a bit more serious poker and try a couple of live games somewhere.  (Don't know where, but I live in Southampton, so any suggestions welcome).

When I say serious poker, I mean a bit more structured as I have the time to play less of a crapshoot tourney.

Hope to see you at the tables, and yes, I do feel better having written this.

Thanks Blonde.   thumbs up

The very last hand of the night goes to Dewi James, who finds ACES and talks Raymond O’Mahoney into calling his all-in preflop bet of 15k.  “If I had AQ, I’d call!” says Dewi.  Raymond calls holding pocket 66’s.

Sorry to hear about that Leigh, but I won't be the first or last to say that sometimes redundancy can be the best thing to happen to you (it might not feel like that now of course).  Best of luck with finding something else, and hopefully your poker can generate some additional income for you.

PM on its way...

WOW talk about timing ....

What you do now is go into work, tell your company to stick their redundancy package up their arses and walk out immediately ... Congrats on the windfall !!

Hope everything works out for you mate Smiley

Rubbish timing Leigh - you'll be fine though. You're obviously very bright and talented and I'm sure you won't find it too hard to find another job.

Plenty of time to post your fry-up now imo.
