times change though m8

ps3's wii's laptops etc etc

I remember 1 year all i got was a football but was well happy..

True, but I reckon atleast half of it is lazy parenting and keeping up with the Jones'.

I know of a 9YO that gets a laptop for Christmas. 9YO getting a £600 laptop for Christmas even though she already has a PC and her parents "are skint"? No wonder Brittain is going bust..both literally and morally.

I blame the immigrants.

Its funny how people without kids are always the ones that cant see how a trip to Lapland or a Disney holiday are a trip of a lifetime for both parents AND children.

It's funny that people without children aren't allow to have opinions about children or anything to do with parenting, because we've never met any kids in our lives, don't have friends and family with children, and weren't children ourselves once upon a time.

OK, let me put it another way.

What holidays and trips with your parents do you remember fondly? Bet ya it's not the ones that cost them and arm and a leg.

We never had money .... we used to go camping at bream downs, Butlins occasionally ... all great holidays.

But I have taken my kids to Disneyland, and their excitement and reactions were something that i will never forget and I know they wont either.

I can say remember going around the western states of the USA with my parents and 2 sisters, for 6 weeks one year (I was about 11 iirc) best 'holiday' ever IMO. Would dearly love to do the same with my kids now, but I know there's no chance, it would cost an absolute fortune.

We also use to go to Cornwall a couple of times a year, it was nice....

Does it matter?  I have an opinion on Strictly Come Dancing, but I can't foxtrot and don't own a spangly shirt.

Let's not let the debate descend into an argumentum ad hominem.  We all know boldie is the German Victor Meldrew, but he's allowed his opinion as much as anyone else.
