Badugi Strategy
«
on:
December 26, 2008, 02:17:43 PM »
Does anyone know good Badugi strategy?
I've started playing it on stars and think its a quality game but not sure of the best way to play it.
If you get dealt K-lo Q-lo or J-lo Badugi do you raise it? What lo should we be drawing to?

My strategy when playing this live in a dealer's choice game is to just fold (unless i get dealt an awesome hand) - this game scares the hell out of me, especially the sizes the pots can reach in it.

It's ofen included in DC Games, but I often just "sit out", as I prefer poker-based variants. The Pots get monsta-big.

Looks like many avoid playing it!
So is it one for gamblers then?

Yes. It's a sort of alternative roulette therapy for many, who just love the thrill.

Badugi was a popular game in the Gala cash games, but like tikay, I tended to sit it out or play a nuts only game, mainly because I wasn't aware of the optimum way to play the game. That, of course, assumes an element of skill in Badugi, which I sense is very little.

Lol guess that says something then. Only played it in micro stakes sngs and maybe i'll steer clear of cash.

The problem I had with it was it was always played as PL rather than FL. If it was FL then maybe I'd give it ago. The problem when playing it PL tho is every draw someone's bound to say "pot", and get multiple callers, resulting in ridic big pots, such that if you want your hand to go to showdown you'll usually have put all you have in front of you in. In a live game it's certainly not for the faint hearted.
And yeah, it isn't even poker.

Played FL sngs and that was what i was enjoying. Played a PL tournament and it was wild, like watching a play money sng.
