says in the paper Gerrard wanted some tune played which led to argument, shoves Gerrard who "instinctively" (MMA fighter or footballer?) elbows him in the face and backs off, then his mates jump in.

met Gerrard a few years back in another club in Southport (Maloneys). I was in my West Brom shirt (we had just played Fulham away) so wasn't allowed in the main bar so stayed at the draught bar. I heard someone say he was in the main bar but didn't think much of it. About 10Min's later a young lad was dragged past me by 2 bouncers with his phone in his hand (must have been trying to take pics of SG).
Anyway, about 5 Min's later SG walks straight past me, I bricked it, got all excited and called him back. He stopped and waited for me, I approached him and said 'Alright mate, hows it going? When you gonna sign for us?' He said 'Who?' I pointed to my shirt with excited like a 10year old and said 'West Brom!'. He laughed and went to shake my hand when these 2 bouncers grabbed me in a head lock. SG told them to leave me and by the time they released me from the head lock there where about 6 of SG's mates stood with him making sure he was OK (thinking I was giving him some trouble). SG pushed past the bouncers and offered me his hand, I shook his hand and he said 'sorry about that mate, good luck for the season

Blame Newcastle fans. It seems receiving a standing ovation from them affects even great players.

That was awesome to see. Only seen it happen twice in recent years at the prem/Euro level and it's amazing to watch.

An assault charge against England and Liverpool footballer Steven Gerrard has been dropped.

The 28-year-old still faces a charge of affray in connection with an incident at a nightclub in Southport. Six other men face the same charge.
