Ok, not just Jack Bauer. He is just the first tv and movie hero that springs to mind when thinking of this.
Almost every tv show these days has a chase scene where the star says something along the lines of "I am heading north east........." or "Get a team into position in the south west stair well".
I can understand if the person giving this information is looking at a global positioning device, cell phone with a fancy gadget built in or even a good old fashioned compass. Without a second thought, the character being given the order gesticulates at his minions to move into position. How the heck does he know what direction south west is after just coming out of a building?
Do they look at the moon or sun without me noticing?
Do you know the direction you are currently facing or are you like me and head through life without the slightest clue of your global position?

I don't understand. Isn't he a real guy? This is like 2003 when I learned Santa was a fake . Ok, my point is that surely this is humanly impossible to know your direction without electronic help. I know sailors used star chats and the sun before electronics, but Bauer doesn't do that, lol

If you know the time of day and you know where the sun is, you can have a fairly accurate guess

don't most cars in the US have a little indicator thingy on the rear-view mirror which says which displays the direction you're going in?

7of9 is my favorite alien. I also like Commander T'Pol from Enterprise, she is high up on my favorite alien list as well.
I wasn't aware that US cars had that Claire. I wonder why we don't have a similar thing. Inspector Morse would have been better if he could give directions 24 style
