I'm due a free (or close to it) upgrade and have no idea which one to pick.  Have never surfed the web or done video with a mobile before, but would like to if there's a good one in the lot for that job.

These are the ones I have to pick from:

I'm probably going to have a go with the G1 phone on T-Mobile when my current contract expires.  I've heard there are a number of issues with it, one being the battery life, but as I sit at a desk all day - that shouldn't be an issue.

Unfortunately, it's not available in Ireland.  So I'm not being helpful.

When you say poor battery life, what amount of time are you talking about?  The specs say 6 hours talk time and 280 standby.  Is that not the real story with them?

With the Iphone (similar spec), talking and standby uses relatively little battery life, but if your browsing the net, or using GPS/ Google Earth or watching YouTube, the battery gets zapped pretty quick...

The battery life is fine on the Nokia N95 / N82 if you set the phone up correctly.

E.g. switch off 3G if you get no or poor 3G reception and use GSM only, switch wi-fi scanning on only when required etc.

I get about a week in between charging my N82 with average call use.

What make have you used before.

The way they design the menus and whatnot of the newer models will always have have similarities to their predecessors.
Might be an idea to go with the same make of phone you've used in the past so that there is a less steep learning curve in how to best go about using all your new phone's features.

Previous phone was a Motorola.  At the minute I have a Sony Ericsson, but I'm not afraid of reading manuals for a new phone.

My Husband has always been a supporter of Nokia's mainly because they made a builder phone he was hard pressed to break.  But any average Nokia he's had was a write off within 6 months, so that kind of put me off them.  That said, I won't be working on construction sites with mine, so it might be ok.

These http://uk.samsungmobile.com/mobile/SGH-M110 are going for £20 from TMobile at the moment - they came out stronger than the JCB Phone in a recent destruction test. You might want to tell Tim.
