I've bought a kite...

Alex reposting that wing suit video reminded me, I've just bought a kite!
Specifically I've got a 4m PKD Brooza III like this one:
It's absolutely huge - way bigger than my 3man tent! (that's a bit of an odd comparison, really)
Hopefully I'll be able to give it a go tomorrow.
Here's a video of what I think it will be like:
Here's what will actually happen:
(around the 1 minute mark)

That looks more like a parachute than a kite.
I was up on Parliament Hill on Hampstead Heath on Saturday (kite-flying centre of London) and there was one guy there with one of these parachute type affairs. Each time the wind picked up he'd get dragged along the ground before managing to stabilise himself. Whilst I was willing him to go all Mary Poppins on us, I did begin to think he was just showboating for the people watching and was never in any danger of actually flying away.

If he was being dragged along on his feet then it was probably deliberate - it's called scudding. If you get it wrong you can face first into the floor, which obviously isn't nice.

Nice kite. I have a small kite, nothing on this level, they're good fun. We went to a kite festival on holiday, that was the business!

In Canary Wharf, there's quite a continuous gust of wind - which was worse about 5 years ago when there was only the one tall building.
One day as i left the tower, I was trying to zip up my ski jacket (why on earth I even had one as i have never been skiing!) and as the zip was about a quarter of the way up the wind puffed out my jacket and swept me right off my feet .... fell right my my backside.
Embarressing, but not as embarressing as the time I fell into a deep freezer in Sainsbury's or the time I tried to dodge a woman in the shops only to realise I was standing in front of a full length mirror (I mean what the hell was they thinking putting the thing right in the middle of the aisile anyway!!)

As a very wise women told me, it's a women's perogative to blab out embarressing stories of herself but swear everyone else to secrecy he he (besides, I was new'ish to the sacred blonde community then and did not wish to appear as a bumble head nutter ...... everyone knows that i'm a nutter now so stories can flow haha)
