Like poker, craps is getting harder to beat. The key to beating both games these days is game selection.
I am stunned when I see loads of people I know simply bowl up to the nearest table and go head down.
As someone who has been paid to write articles on dice and coached many newcomers here is my standard advice :-
- Step 2 metres away from the tables and watch them for a few minutes before getting involved.
- Never play on your own.
- Pick a table with a good `vibe'.
- Players on the table must be already winning (check to see people with healthy stacks).
- Players must look happy/semi wealthy.
- The dealers must be in some way friendly.
- Never play on a table with TJ Cookier or Willie.
- If a decent roll builds up but there is a disruption (usually by staff to disrupt thrower), pull off the numbers for that one throw.
- If someone shows they `can throw' do not let them leave the table, and pay them to throw if need be.
- If you are with a `non dice' player, tell them to `do one' or give them money for slots.
- Always have at least 2 more `pull ups' in case the game is juicy but you get unlucky early.
- Always `do one' when the game breaks up.
Also, it sounds like you are a shocking thrower James. If all else fails, then back the dont pass as long as no one knows you at the table.

LOL getting harder to beat.........
Disagree with the 'non dice' thrower thing though. First time rollers FTW IMO, seem to be lucky for me especially if they are decent looking chicks.

Obviously i was going to contact you to check if i was making any errors, i fell foul of one or two i am not sure i need some classification, i held back and obv circled the craps pit looking for the people shouting however the 'loudest' table wasn't really that loud it could well have been just the table where people were losing the least....
Playing on your own i kinda broke as well i guess although i had Lucy with me i fear it might further complicate things as she is not a dice player, however she does have a love of the game and is keen to get involved just not when the min is $25.
Plz help me so i know for next time, have you done any online coaching videos or maybe a DVD??

If you are capable of practising good table selection at the time, you have failed rule number 1. Proceed immediately to the nearest bar and rectify. Then come back when you are good and ready to parlay the hopping hard eight.
And as for non-players, esp partners, all I will say is that the best roll of my life was with my wife next to me. Very bitter-sweet, I won a lot of money, but about 10% of what I would have won if she hadn't been there...
