boo. I am going to sue the
white swan
pub on vauxhall bridge road. they have a plaque outside claiming that it is one of the most popular pub names in the country
bloody liars!
In fourth place with 451 examples is
the Swan
. Used since the 1300s, the name may refer to the bird or to a coat of arms. There was a Swan Inn in Solihull on the corner of Poplar Road and Station Road until the 19th century, and its name is echoed in Wetherspoon's recently established White Swan on Station Road. Another local example is the White Swan in Henley in Arden, a coaching inn owned for some years by actor Michael Elphick.
William Shakespeare's contemporary Ben Jonson gave him the epithet
'Swan of Avon
', giving us another, local interpretation of the name. So perhaps it should come as no surprise that Stratford on Avon has both a White Swan and a
Black Swan
(the latter, a favourite of actors from the nearby Royal Shakespeare Theatre, is also known as the Dirty Duck).
All the same...

Links or it didn't happen! Then we'll decide on objections, seconding and all that rubbish (to save backing out from the objection later when we find out we're wrong).

Yes, none of them are The Swan.

Appeals, objections etc are allowed but must be brought up after the provisional answer list has been posted and before the running scores are posted, no earlier post will be considered but can be quoted. An appeal must have a proposer and a seconder.
Non-entrants will be ignored.
