God Bless Michael O'Leary.
Ryanair - probably the world's best Airline.
He can, of course, charge whatever he likes, for whatever he wants, as long as it's made clear before Booking. And would-be passengers have the choice, whether to fly Ryanair, or not. Passenger stats suggest they have got the business model spot on.
I agree Tony he has the model right, he knows he has a captive audience and he squeezes every penny, yeh i feel this is opening the door to lower standards, The airline standards have dropped so badly due to
demand for budget airlines
that at some point wit will be acceptable to offer fight A on the plane with the good engine and the sober pilot, or flight B take yer chances and the glue has nearly set on the wings.
Standards must remain imho
And there you have it.
Consumers can't have it both ways. Ryanair is super-cheap, extras or not, so huge Passenger numbers make it the success it is. They moan, of course, it's the modern way, we live in a moaning society, but it's Europe's biggest Short-Haul Airline because it does what it does well.
The average age of the Ryanair fleet, by the way, is the youngest of any major airline, so the 'planes are as safe as any, & safer than most.
It's also one of the the most punctual Airlines in Europe.
And at a time when all the big airlines are struggling to stay in business, Ryanair has over €700 million of cash sitting in it's bank.
So Sir Michael does not mind being unpopular.
I cant flaw the chaps business acumen, infact he runs his business very well, However i am of the opinion that some things come with the flight as an un-said extra such as use of the toilet. A glass of water, friendly staff.
I was using the old knackered plane analogy to highlight the potential of where does it stop, obviously i was taking things to extremes and exaggerating quite a bit, the point remains valid none the less.
In all fairness when Ryan air decided to charge for taking bags on board i said fine and fair enough as i only ever took carry on luggage I feel its a great idea, now however its a charge for bringing a non empty bowel or bladder on board.
Like i said earlier its just another drop in standards from where i stand
Yes - lower in-flight standards (though not Safety), for less money. That's the choice passengers have, & the figures (most Ryanair flights operate at passenger capacity of 80%+, an Industry phenonomen) suggest that's what the passengers want.
There's always BA, where the toilets will always be "free", but the ticket prices are 4 times higher, on average, per passenger kilometre.
Punters have the choice.
Staff friendliness? On that I agee, Ryanair's Staff are particularly curmudgeonly, & I wsh it were not so. But I don't moan about it, because I like cheap flights too much.

Tony as you know Flying with BA is not just a flight its an experience. Free booze and food, Massuse available and a choice of menu for early and late short haul flights to make that business travel a little more worthwhile.
Alas I believe is the end of all the nice things that used to come with business travel, now any company that asks you to travel asks you to use the cheapest carrier which builds resentment.
Ryan Air, well i think they had their hundreds of millions in the bank before they decided to charge for having a Jobie on the plane, He is emptying the consumers pockets to fill his, Good luck to him, I will make the choice to spend my money elsewhere ( money I will reclaim from expenses BTW lol )

Oh, I could not agree more Billy - but it comes at a cost.
I've had Shares in BA since it was Privatised - a goodly few, too - so I have a great affection for good old BA. But the Shares are worth less today then when they floated, & they were absent from the Dividend List for about 12 years. Meanwhile, Ryanair's Shares are way, way, above float price.
Soon, Ryanair will start a Transatlantic service, to New York at first, & when they do, God help BA & Virgin, who make almost all of their profit on the London-New York route. It'll be 60% cheaper tha BA or Virgin, so even if they charge ten bob for the loo, peeps will pay it, & still be quids in.
It's no different to choosing between shopping at, say, Sainsbury & Aldi. There's no customer toilets in Aldi, but they are super-cheap. Sainsburys have "standards". And charge you for them.
Looking forward to seeing you at DTD in a few weeks bud. The teas are on me. And the toilets are free!

I use Ryanair a lot.
I cant argue with the overall value as you have all pointed out.
Theyre prices are incredible, and I doubt anyone would notice if they all went up £1 and this would have all gone unnoticed.
I flew back into the UK on Saturday and the plane was fitted with the new mobile phone system, a complete bargain at €3 per minute, but again people have the choice whether they use it or not.
The one thing I can still not stomach is being charged £4 each way per passenger to pay by Maestro. This doesnt go towards the card processing and he should not be aloud to do this in my opinion. He can charge what he wants for the toilets, the baggage, the insurance but this is just a lie. It should read MAESTRO + 40p processing + £15.60 right in your eye.
I also always lol at the people who pay for the priority boarding as they number of airports that use this system is tiny. I think my favourite is when there is a bus involved so the priority boarders get to the bus first, then get squashed at the back, are then last of the bus, and last on to the plane!
Interesting point on their punctuality, which I may stand corrected on but of the airlines that they are compared to, easyjet, bmibaby, airlingus, jet2 etc are ryanair not the only ones who add 30 mins to every arrival time? Therefore the 10% of the flights that are not on time are actually over half an hour late?

I think it's almost Industry-Stndard now to artificially inflate the journey time, to build in some "cushion" for punctuality. Of the Short-Haul Budgets, I know that BMI & Aer Lingus do.
Let's celebrate their greatness, not their lateness.

What happens if you get the runs. The trip could start getting expensive. Is that your fault? Maybe they will market an unlimited usage swipe card for the weak-bladdered curry-eaters. Nuts. Using the toilet is the basic right of a civilised human being.

Oh, you can still use the Toilet, your Human Rights have not been violated. You just gave to pay, as you do in so many places these days.
Alternatively, fly BA. It's 4 times the price, the worst punctuality of any major airline, & they are 11 times more likely to lose your baggage, but you can pee & poo for free.
You pays your money & takes your choice. Unless you are British, in which case, have a moan, but still use Ryanair.

Thats a wee bit light on the facts for BA tbh Tony, as well as losing your luggage and keeping you late they will feed you massage you, get you well and truely oiled up with plenty of free booze and you have the full amenitys of playstations and sky tv at your disposal. Take the good with the bad, they can delay me all they like if they keep pampering my fat arse to be honest.
