I saw an interesting article recently which claimed that per capita Danes produce the best results in poker.
(The result was calculated by number of 1st-3rd place finishes in major comps like WSOP WPT EPT/population,)

People like Hougaard with his 2 recent bracelets, Eastgate obv ME champ, Gus Hansen's long list of successes, Theo Jorg, Rasmus Nielsen etc, etc have taken the poker world by storm.

The USA ran in 2nd, with Australia in 3rd, then Canada and Norway in 4th and 5th.

Do you agree Danes are the best?

They're great.

Is the /population the total population of the country, or the number of poker players in the country (however that'd be worked out)?

I beleive it is the entire country.

Obviously the method of calculation could be improved by dividing the places by number of actual poker players and the Danes as a country with a high % of poker players benefit from the method of calcuation used.

As a ballpark figure it is interesting though.

That's interesting. I would suggest USA, but then it's possible they also have the most losing players due to sheer numbers.

Also, I get that this survey is just looking at tournaments and looking at cash results would prob be a better way fo defining the best players.

Well, i dunno, Hachem and Tony G are obv 2 of the top australians, though don't forget Mel Judah!

But given their population size, pulling them out of contention would be roughly equivalent to pulling out the top 20 Americans.

Canada-wise, for a country with a population of 30 mill, they produce a ridiculous number of good players imo.

Timex, Negreanu, Glen Chorny, Tuan Lam, Nenad Medic, Gavin Smith, Marc Karam, Sorel Mizzi...the list goes on. All top players. There's loads of young talent coming through too, like Samuel Chartier, Andrew Chen and Leo Kam. I was surprised they werent top of the list tbh...

Annette, not sure about. She will have many top results over her career but she's not been playing live poker that long really and just has the two significant results to add to the pool of Norwegian success so far, the WSOPE bracelet and 2nd in EPT Dublin.

So overall, I don't think they skew the list in an unfair manner, although if you pulled some of them out (particularly the two australians) it would have a big bearing on their rating.

GB has Richard Kellett. Cashed for 20k at EPT Dortmund and won £200 w/rebuys at the Vic. Surely makes england a contender for number 1 no?

Only a matter of time til the force of young grimming legends like Kellster, AdamG, Fergus take the world for the absolute lot.

I'd say it's pretty conclusive, Denmark is definately the best.

You used to say Stevie G was a bad player!

Yeh i have said that before, and I maintain at the lower levels they seem bad, but every time I see one playing top level poker, they are very good.

I guess I've changed my mind based on more evidence lol
