Here's the deal.  The International Club (formerly Gutshot) are running a satellite tomorrow night for the Party Poker Women's Open.  It's been advertised as a £110 two table sat.  I've added my name to the list of people interested, but I gather from catching up with posts on their forum that the plan is to see hwo many people turn up to play, then set the buy in level accordingly to generate the equivalent of a $3000 prizepool to cover the cost of the seat.  Now I'm sure I'm not the only one who is going to be giving serious consideration as to whether or not to show up because of this, and it's bound to affect the number of players making the trip to the club fo this.  I'm no businesswoman, but surely the way to have done this would have been to have a fixed buy in of £x and guarantee a seat?  Opportunities to qualify for the tournament are few and far between, and I've no doubt the club would not be leaving themselves open to an overlay if they did this.  The way they are doing it sounds like it will be an administrative nightmare for the club too - how long do they wait to see if anyone else is going to show before deciding it's time to close the entries and work out the buy-in?

If this were any normal tournament, I'd say 'sod that for a game of soldiers' and bugger off up to Luton for their regular game instead, but I really want a shot at winning a seat, and tomorrow's tourney and the online sat due to be held on blonde are my only real chances.

OK - that was a bit of a waffle.  My question really is - I'd be mad to turn up to play this, wouldn't I?

Live satellites are hit and miss. Even more so in this case as it's only open to women.

They have lots to lose (~$2.8k) and little to gain from the guarantee.

In answer to the question, nah, it seems the common sense approach tbh.

I'd rather get there, find only 5 folk and all agree to do a £100 non-sat comp, than get there, find only 5 folk and discover that guarantee in poker doesn't always mean guarantee. "sorry folks, we've had to cancel tonights comp"

Have an upper limit in your mind of what you're prepared to pay. Likelyhood is that no-one will want to pay £400 or whatever if there's only a few runners, but you can probably still get a non sat game.

I'm sure they would be better saying to you that "we need 15 runners to make the seat, any runners over the 15 mark will enable a cash prize for 2nd, any runners below the 15 mark and the winner takes all or puts the shortfall in to make the seat up" at least that way you know where you stand (or sit) pardon the pun.

p.s see link for Bridgnorth sat as well: http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=40581.0 this contains details of Live sat's at Bridgnorth and also on-line sat's on Blonde. Good luck

11 runners in the end, so £192 (juice free in exchange for winner agreeing to wear gutshot logo on t'telly)
