Turns out it's an April fools joke..and Mike Ashley came up with the idea....just how funny do Newcastle fans think this one is whilst they are in  relegation battle?

Does anyone else think that it seems a little odd that Shearer himself has not yet commented on or confirmed the appointment ?

I don't think it's for alan shearer to confirm. It's a club thing. It is strange is. Suggests that all the details are not sorted. Was a bit stupid of mike Ashley to email his favourite chump on sky if that was the case though.

You got to hope that 38 points is enough. I can't see you getting more than 9 points from your remaining games, whoever in charge.

Our usual result at the lane would help us out big time! Stoke away, as I said a couple of weeks ago, is our biggest game for decades. A loss and we are down.

I have listened to way too many opinions on it all today, many contradict and many will never really be proved right or wrong.  the best one I like puts my feelings into words. Are we in a better position to survive today than we were yesterday - yes. There was no other canidate that could do that (and was a viable option). We only need the new manager buzz to get us through the short term, so hopefully that will happen. I'd then love him to go on for 4 or 5 years. Recently we have used cash to draw players up here and I'm a firm believer that football in 2012/13 is going to have to cut all that dramatically. We now have a name that current players respect, and hopefully that will let us get a bit more quality in on good business terms.

Do we have more chance of getting a result against Chelsea at home or away?! We have given Man U and Arsenal a game in the last few weeks so all the talk like its already lost are a bit annoying. Sure in the calculations right it off, but it wouldnt be all that much of a suprise to see us get something. Sadly the odds have lost the value that they had yesterday. Some Chelsea injuries tonight would be nice too.

what makes you say that? I'm not questioning the opinion so much as intrigued. I never really got the impression that the guy garnered much respect from other players tbh, they seemed to hate the way he got away with so much crap on the pitch

how many of your current squad played with him? I can see them having some respect but no-one else

I just wonder how Kinnear can ever go back now? If Shearer does very well there's no chance he'll leave as he'll be the saviour. If he makes a mess of things...it'll all be the other guy's fault and Shearer should be given time as...well..he's the saviour.

I cant see anyone not having respect for his record, his come back from injuries, his determination. I think the stuff about not liking him on the pitch goes right out the window. He had massive battles with people like Adams and Keown, see what they say about him. There is no way Alan Shearer dished out anymore than he took and I think that those who played against him, although hated it at the time, will do nothing but respect that. Those playing now must also only be hoping to have as successful a career (yes I do mean successful!! Fufill your childhood dreams, earn a decent crust and have one of the best records going) as he had.

I think you'd reach about 4, perhaps 5 played with him.

I'm confused now, which one was the April fool ?
