Had 2 people contact us about this very recently, although it just seemed like people jumping on a bandwagon, rather than being very experienced. Were both talking about % deals. Both weren't talking about it for very long...

A percentage of all your winnings or just online/specific tournies they got your sponsorship for?

That is a bit of a joke, I think the Hit Squad are probably a good example of how most players DONT need an agent, as they do a pretty decent job of advertising themselves (It helps that are at every bleedin FT in the UK)

%'s of any fees that you might get for tv things, writing gigs, bootcamp stuff etc that they had got for you and yes if they were to get you a full sponsorship deal most would be looking for a % of winnings in the tournaments you're sponsored for. You need to be very savvy though as they can put pretty much anything into a contract that your average poker player may or may not read through as accurately as you should

I'm pretty well prepared for these things from my studying/working background, but not everyone is, especially those that have dropped out of uni to go into poker. The poker royalty guys found at the wsop are a prime example of how young players can be swept up and taken advantage of.... When James made his final table last year, these guys were all over him telling him how certain sites had specifically asked for him blah blah blah. Fortunately I was able to help him wade through some of that crap and make sure he didn't get signed up for something benefiting the agent more than the player.

The intermediary that he used in that case was a friend of a friend, who we knew we could trust. Sure there is risk involved with anything where you're not getting paid up front, but the deal he chose in the end was by far the best, with all things considered

Is that not a questionable decision considering the reputation of UB within the poker playing community.

All decisions are questionable, at the time bottom line $$ were taken above taking a moral high ground and pretending that turning down a one off sponsorship would effect anything that had gone on before. Other people might have made different decisions, other people might not truely know what they would do until put in the specific situation. Anyways, bit off topic of the original thread, not for me to discuss any further anyway really, am sure James would chat about his personal reasons with you if you ever meet him in person.

Nope take the cash IMO unless your a big name and have something to lose.........

Hasn't done Phil Helmuth any harm either.
