I trashed the Dean because he has no clue what he's on about. Now read a FREE blog post from someone who really does know what they're on about: Andy Ward disecting a hand of poker. Read this and weep: http://secretsoftheamateurs.blogspot.com/2009/04/post-match-analysis.html

If only I could do that!
Of course the age old complaint is, how the hell can you force the processes required in that analysis to go through your brain before the time bank expires?

I reckon my thought process in a hand is maybe 10% as detailed as this (on a day when I haven't downed 5+ bottles of bud)
To be honest the blog has depressed me greatly, my days as a winning poker player are numbered if my opponents are this technically advanced,

It is very good and the example perfectly highlights a problem with JJ. Putting 4200 in seems reasonable, but are you really going to back it up with 75k more to find out if jacks are good?
I think Andy's best bit of the article (realtively, it's all good stuff, without checking the numbers) is to make the distinction between different types of 3bettor and have that as the major influence not to spew-jam against the wrong player.

From his January blog "Still not sure whether I'm going to give you actual $ numbers this year. Maybe I won't. But in the absence of any big scores, you can generally assume that I'm grinding at around 30-40% ROI, on average"

Definitely one of the best free learning resource on the net. Back in 2005-2006 playing mtt's using guidelines set out in Secrets of the Amateurs was like printing money. IMO he still writes he writes as intelligently about poker as anyone.

Agree great post... It`s good to see that everybody wants to play perfectly, only problem is has he points out ..I think? The difference between the technicaly right decision and the wrong is so small that whichever play you choose the outcome is still pretty close, and if you put the same problem out to any top pro`s the answers would all contain many "ifs" and "buts" and several different answers. PS. love the "Vic" regulars comment....I`m one of them LoL
