Welcome to Newcastle for the Fifth Leg of the 2009 GUKPT

Day 1a begins at 2pm today and I'll be bringing you the action as the runners seek to emulate last year's winner Ganesh Rao and lift the trophy

From the Blue Square odds list  http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=42014.0 it looks like we're in for a high powered field

Also if you haven't entered yet please see the Live update competition. Guess the number of runners and win £100 direct into your blondepoker card-room account

http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=41982.0

Also tonight is Leg three of the May League on blonde's cardoom. Why not play that while criticising me for the use of the term "back-raise", or not posting enough norkage, or heaven forbid my new trick..which is to describe a straight as a run or a set as a prile?

Details can be found here  http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=41635.0

As an added bonus if you bust Colchester Kev in that, preferably from way behind pre-flop, and post the hand history on the update thread you'll win £50 into your card-room account from me.

See you later, and hope you enjoy the updates!

Interestingly the etymology of Prile is a corruption of pair royal. I gather that in three card brag a prile beats a royal flush.

So on no account, no sirree, will I be describing a set as a prile or a wire up in today's update. Unless RookieITB is viewing

Looking forward to the updates again. I'm being foolish enough to make the 4 hour trip tomorrow morning. There is no prospect of it selling out, is there?

Hi Stuart, not by the sounds of it no. Jon Raab confirms this

It's actually very quiet in here today. Spotted milling about Jeff Kimber, The Camel, Mr and Mrs Flanders, Joey Lovelady Andreas Hoivold and Steve Jelinek

Expectation of about 50-60 runners today so far

42 runners I think so far

Rick Trigg has managed to draw a table with on his direct right Ganesh Rao, Jeff Kimber and Julian Thew

C T Law is first out on the second hand. Lost a lot of chips first hand on a J J 6 J x board and then proceeded to raise on the button with  . Christopher Wright re-raised in the big blind with  and Law, looking very cross with life to be frank,  pushed.

Flop  left him drawing thin and no help came

A half empty card-room, A5 off all in pre-flop second hand. Welcome to the GUKPT Twilight zone!
