I can't believe the FIA have let this happen

surprising, I thought teams like Red Bull/Brawn GP were masively in favour of budget caps. I guess its possible to be both in favour of it and to still leave F1, but still its surprising to see such an uprising.

How annoyed must those new teams be to spend all that money setting up a new team and have it end up they are joining a championship with no-one in it!

The breakaway championship

Are the papers calling it F2?

That would be confusing, the second round of the F2 championship is at Brno this weekend, but then the papers are unaware motorsport exists outside F1.

As ever the only people who will win are the lawyers.

There are 3 boxers in the ring, FOTA, FIA and Bernie (FOM) and as ever I am sure there will be only one winner - Bernie.

He has contacts with everyone, including the circuits, sponsors and teams, the new teams will be only allowed to race in the circuits that are left, Zanfort (Holland), South Africa, Estorial (Portugal) none of which are really up to F1 spec. Equally the only sponsors left will be Happy Moon Chinese take away.

They will be back for 2010 - 2012, beyond that is more debatable when the main contacts are finished.

It's just a case of who breaks first Bernie or the teams.

Without those 8 teams F1 is dead so if they stick to their guns they should get the budget cap lifted.

What do people think of the budget cap?

Personally I think it's ridiculous. All it will do is make all the cars a bit more equal. Now I know that people think they want that but if they're honest they probably don't.

If everybody really wanted all the cars on an equal plane they'd stop watching F1 and watch A1 instead. Unfortunately that's crap so it's not an option.

F1 is supposed to be the pinnacle of motorsport. How can teams be expected to maintain this if they aren't allowed to spend money on research?

F1 does an IRL/CART would be more pertinent, and look what happened there.

I look forward to the starting grid in F1 next season featuring Mike Gregory and Bobby George whilst Eric Bristow and Keith Deller line up for Ferrari.

Budget cap and more equality are fine by me, works perfectly well in America.

Why people don't watch A1, is because it's second rate drivers that no-one has heard of, in a brand new championship with no meaning or history. Sky would have been better getting hold of F2 and bumming that up, or World TOuring Cars perhaps than wasting time with this second rate nonsense.
