No - all I get at home is TV's now I come on the forum and what do I see "New TV help" of course I had to see what it was about as I am programmed to click on anything to do with TV's!

We bought a 32" Sony HD TV about three years ago. I am quite happy with it and everyone who comes in say's "I like your TV".  The problem is we live in a very small 2 up 2 down terraced cottage and the tv seems to take over the whole room. Still my poor hubby has glaucoma and cannot see too good, in fact he stands up and moves close to the screen if he wants to read anything, especially the racing results!

Now for the past few months he has been driving me mad looking at TV's, he goes to John Lewis about once a week annoying the sales people. They must say to themselves "oh no, here comes that old boy again". By the way, he is 80 years old but not senile yet!

He gets John Lewis to give him print outs from their computer on the tv's he is interested, then comes home and says "here girl, punch this number into your computer".  Drives me mad, I am having to look up info on TV's and read out all the specifications for him as he not only cannot use a computer, he can't even see what is on the screen
(which is a 16" one by the way).

Anyway, he comes home today with a printout clutched in his hand and I thought, here we go again.  He is now interested in a Sony KVL-37W5710 37" at £1,049.  He said we have got to get this girl "its the b--llks".  I told him if you want another tele I won't be here watching it with you.  In fact, I told him he had better find some other accommodation to put him and his tele in.

I just do not understand, we have a perfectly good tv.  I have suffered this with him all our married life, if some new technology comes out we have to have it!

Yes, the John Lewis guarantee is a good idea.  But they obviously need to stock the telly (I wasn't calling you Telly, just an abbreviation for television) and then they'll also price match anywhere else.

I asked John Lewis to price match a telly chased it up twice, after 2 weeks gave up bought a telly from Richer sounds who do a very good value 5 yr warranty for 10% of price of telly,£600 telly £60 warranty (tescos between £140 and £240 for 5 years).
2 weeks after i bought my telly John Lewis agreed my price match, does it really take 4 weeks to check the price of a telly in a competitors store 2 streets away.

http://www.richersounds.com/product/lcd-tv/samsung/le32b450/sams-le32b450

£50 cheaper for this little fella. Only difference is it's not 1080P.

Are you planning on playing lots of BluRay discs? If not you really don't need full HD. Might as well save the £50.

Also a 32" screen with 720 lines is going to look just as sharp as a 42" screen with 1080 lines. DUCY?

Forget the full HD dude. It's a rich man's folly. It's only necessary if you've got lots of full HD inputs and a huge screen.

If you've got space for a slightly bigger screen I've just got a lovely 42" LG jobbie. Only £550. Looks lovely and picture's more than adequate.

Panasonic Viera EVERY DAY..  Brilliant quality, the best for the money..

Check the contrast ratio on any telly..  the bigger the better...  when I bought my first plasma, normal contrast ratio was 1000:1 and good ones were 2000:1...  I bought a panny at 4000:1..  Brill....  Now... I have a 30,000:1 contrast ratio..  its mega...  also..  When looking at contrast ratios, some say they are 40,000:1...  this is often dynamic and not actually..  My panny is 30,000:1 actual, 1 million:1 dynamic...  This is what gives you blacker blacks instead of that washed out look..

Costco also do 5 year warranty on all tellys...

So - I've been doing some reading.

As my telly will be for watching sport (most of the time), motion blurring (or lack of) is important.

From what I've read plasma is better for coping with motion than LCD - or is that not the case any more?  I've also read that plasma gives better clarity and 'black' in dim light, but doesn't perform as well in bright light.

So for me, would plasma make sense?

I got one of these last year and it's the bollocks

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0013UMYPK/ref=ox_ya_oh_product

Don't get Planet Earth on blu ray though, seems a good idea at the time, but in reality, you watch a bit of one once, then it's back in the box....

Oh, and get 37", it's not as big as you think.  We went from a 28" crt to the 37" plasma and it wasn't that big a jump as I expected

QFT, plasma is the bollocks!
