Very sorry to hear this Mr Red.

Your dad was a great storyteller and his books are amongst my favourite reads.

My sincerest thanks to everyone who rang me, sent a PM, or posted on this thread to offer condolences. It really does mean a lot to me.

In my society, it's important that people take a moment to pay their respects, and I'm truly grateful that so many of you took the time to do so.

Thank you.

Below is my reply to a private message from Tony, I don't think he will mind if I share it with you.

On Wednesday evening we brought dad home Then we spent the night sitting up, reminiscing about him and telling tales by the fireside,

On Thursday, hundreds turned out to pay their respects, including his 21 grandchildren, (22 if you count Tommy) and 22 great grandchildren.

Someone we hardly know sent a restored 1961 "J" type Bedford to carry some of the flowers.

The funeral procession took well over an hour to cover the 18 miles to the cemetery as we took him one last time through the lanes and past the commons where we used to stop.

He's buried in a beautiful spot, in the shade of a tree overlooking the fields.

It was a sad day, but I know that you will understand what I mean when I say that it was also a good day. I was proud of my family, my people and their traditions.

I will be fine. I will continue to appreciate life's many blessings, as he taught me to do.

Before he went I told him that he would always be with me, and he always will.

My debit of grief will be easy to pay, it will be cheap at any price.
