Good signing if he can stay fit.
He'll sure get a nice welcome back at Anfield though

Owen undergoing a medical.
Wonder if he's as fit/young/healthy as his brochure says.

Dan,
What's with the downer on Owen ?
I thought most Liverpool fans still rated him and would have had him back on a freebie, but Rafa has never been keen.
When he left for Real, was it on bad terms then ?
On a free transfer, it seems good business for whoever gets him, which looks like us at the moment.

He's a mercenary. Half the Liverpool fans disowned him long ago, the other half will probably join in with those sentiments now.
Despite his great goalscoring record for us, he was never Liverpool's Michael Owen - always England's Owen. The adoration that was given to Rush, Aldo, Fowler and now Torres was never quite there for Owen. His move to Real was fairly sour one, compounded by his supposed eagerness to rejoin us before going to the barcodes.
I think most do rate him as a player, and when he's fit and on form, he's a top class goalscorer. If man u get him on a pay-per-play basis (which I think it will be?), then it's a shrewd signing. Not sure he's what you need, but Fergie generally knows what he's doing.

Jimmy White makes sense, me thinks.
About him being a mercenary..lol very hard at that. The guy is looking for a job, should he not go to ManU because he once played for Liverpool? Or because he left to go to Real, the biggest club in the world at that time? Liverpool didn't want him back after he came back from Real and they don't want him now. Owen is doing the best thing for his career ATM..teaming up with Rooney at ManU is the best way for him to get in the frame for the England job again.
Fair play to him for taking a big pay cut and not going to Stoke or some other club where he might make more money (not taking into account bonusses and all that) but going to a team where he can achieve something.

S dI love how the figure he earnt at Newcastle keeps going up and up.
I'll be really really interested to see how he gets on, performance and attitude. I think it's a bit strange because to get back in the England team and break that record (which I think is far and away his top ambition) he'll have to both score and play regularly at club level. I haven't seen much at all that would suggest he'll be doing that at Man U. In terms of pace for a PL player (which sadly is more valuable than actually being able to play football now) he is average at best - perhaps some confidence (or lack of, in his body and game).
I don't feel like I've had value out of my £40 'Owen 10' top, without evening getting to the £38m he cost Newcastle.
GG Michael, enjoy the gambling spin downs.

“We will sort something out amicably next summer,” said Owen. “I won’t just up and leave on a Bosman. I have the rest of this season and all next still left on my existing contract but talks have already started on a new one. Inevitably, they are complex though and don’t get done in just a week. But I certainly see myself at Liverpool next year. Why not? I’m not in football for the money. And that is largely what it means when players sit out their contracts and go for free.”

Not sure you ever get value out of a £40 replica shirt, whichever team, whichever player's name goes on it
