The Open is almost upon us. What are your bets?

Rory McIlroy has dropped from 100/1 to 25/1 in recent weeks - I take it the bookies watched him shoot 63 round Turnberry a fortnight ago in a practice round too.

The Ailsa course favours someone who draws the ball and can hit fairways. I'm going for the straightest of them all David Toms E/W at 80/1 on WillHill and another couple of quid E/W on Jim Furyk at 40/1. The wife will no doubt want money on her usual two - Villegas (55s on WillHill) and Harrington (33s on Coral) - both of whom I'm quite happy to have on my slip.

A number of fancies, Jacquelin, Westwood, Ross Fisher, Martin Laird, and if the weather looks grim, Paul Lawrie.

Els at 49/1 on betfair, who are also still offering the chance to lay Mickelson.

Given that he has confirmed he's not playing .....

This may be a stupid question, but can you back each way on Betfair?

For the golf you can bet winner, top 5 or top 10 - three different markets.

Ross Fisher's wife is about to drop their first sprog so he's a pretty doubtful runner.

This seems like a really really bad idea to me from betfairs rules

If a player does not start a tournament then all bets on that player will be void..

So if he changes his mind, you have just laid Mickleson at a ridic price. The shrewd thing to do is back him at 100 hoping he me might turn up and then lay that price off when he tees off in the 1st round.

I'm not matched on all of them yet, so I'll put them up as soon as I am.

Trust me that everyone will think that I've gone stark staring bonkerser when my main fancy is posted.
