It is called Sports Personality not Sports achievement for a reason, people have to know/give a shit who he is and what he has achieved. There is no way Taylor will ever win it imo.

I like Phil Taylor and I like Darts but it's a bunch of overweight pub landlords playing a pub game. I'm always gonna find it hard to justify thinking one of these guys deserves an award like this when there's so many fantastic sports people out there.
