My rant of the day:

http://latestnews.virginmedia.com/news/uk/2009/07/31/commuters_facing_185_parking_tax

"Commuters could be charged £185 a year to leave cars at work under the scheme, with the sum rising by 2014 to £350 per parking bay for firms with 11 or more spaces."

This has been rumoured for a while and Nottingham could be the first of many around the country. Some have argued that the money will be used to help local transport initiatives, but why should motorists pay for something that won't help them? What has happened to the income tax, council tax and car tax, petrol taxes etc that i am already paying?
I am lucky in that I have a car park at work, but what will they do if everyone just parks in side streets or how many firms will just close the car park to avoid the cost.
A complete joke.

I'll say "yes, he does" - I'm curious about your next move in this debate.

That banks are usually in some kind of town and towns usually have some sort of bus. That was the boring direction though.

What I was really hoping was to get him to admit that he doesn't take the bus because the bus smells of wee. (Which is a fair enough reason obv)

Then I was going to propose the idea that if the powers that be really want to stop people using cars, they should employ people who stink up the buses with wee to go round car parks and put wee smell in peoples cars.
Now that they have a job the buses will stop smelling like wee but the cars will.

Yes, but haven't worked in a branch in years. I did persuade the Mrs a few years back to use the bus, but then they changed the timetable so that the bus would now arrive 45 minutes too early or 15 minutes to late so she had to go back to driving.  Roll Eyes

Cant believe its actually going to happen, Im sure Boots and Imperial Tabacco said something along the lines of 'if you do this, we will leave Nottingham'

Lol, not quite sure if the maths works Car Parking Tax > Moving 2 of the biggest companies in the UK

Ironically, Boots aren't in Nottingham , but their main staff car park is. Not due in until 2012, probably never will happen after next election?

Are the Government under some ridiculous pressure from Europe to get more cars off the road or something? Every week there's some new ridiculous tax or charge being levied.
