You have got your router in to the main phone point and not on an extension lead or secondry point?

Sigh, I dream of 1.7km. 5.3km here.
Your speed is very tez for 1.7km. Find an ex-BT engineer in the classified section of the local rag and get him to sort your wiring and extensions out.

5.4k here.
Just going to order one of these to see if it helps.
Connect your router to the test socket first. If there's not much change then the iPlate will do nothing. FMattenuation. When they built this house, BT connected us to the exchange thataway---->. WTF was wrong with the one 1.2km <----------- thataway I'll never know.

Most of the speed test sites have a "forum link" link. Just paste that.

you need to go into the router home page and have a look at some of the stats - line attenuation, noise, uncancelled echo, excessive impulse noise etc also the rate cap will tell you what BT have your rate maxed at. If you do connect to the main input socket by removing the face plate, you wont get an immediate improvement, it can take BT up to 4 days to resync your line speed
