Hello, thought I should post something as it seems to be a very community driven forum from my lurking, although I made a post or two already.

I'm 21 studying for a degree, living in Blackpool.

A bit of blurb about how I got into poker.

I've always loved games and gaming, my family refused to play board games with me and card games joined the list shortly, after I was introduced to them as a kid.
This was forgotten about, I started playing computer games in the early 90s at a young age, my dad bought me a 386 sx 25! ( holy slow batman ), and I quickly got introduced to such children friendly games as Doom, at around the age of 7-8, which is probably responsible for the twisted individual I am today Wink

I was in an insomniacal stage a while ago and caught some poker on late night TV, I'd seen late night poker before but the programs over the summer ( wsop/ept ) caught my interest due to work hours and my random sleep patterns.
It peeked my interest enough to see what was available online, and it looked interesting, but having played a lot of online games before I realised that the game was probably much deeper than it looked and that before taking the plunge into playing with real money I should get a solid grounding first, from forums, online articles and books. I've spent a fair bit of time perusing all of them, although skimped on the books, I've been treading water online the last few months, until I picked up some books and read them thouroughly, and discovered that what was available online in no way covered as much depth as the books available, and they have really helped my game.

So anyway, thats about it.
I love the sense of humour of some of the posters here ( very droll ), and the wide mix of ages and experience, and look forward to contributing ( hopefully positively ) to the place.

I met a member of staff of a different blackpool casino ( unsure which - they mentioned st annes ) during a MTT on Pokerstars, who told me the best place to go was the grosvenor if I was interested in live play.
The poker scene around here ( Blackpool ) seems reasonable, my only dissapointment being the lack of freezeouts at the local grosvenor ( or so the grosvenor website says ), which I am led to believe a member of this forum is the cardroom manager for Wink

The very last hand of the night goes to Dewi James, who finds ACES and talks Raymond O’Mahoney into calling his all-in preflop bet of 15k.  “If I had AQ, I’d call!” says Dewi.  Raymond calls holding pocket 66’s.

Welcome to the forum Gryffles, a great first post.

Doom at 7! It was a bad enough program then and I hear it got even worse with later releases.

Hiya Gryffles, seems like you've got a very sensible head, unlike myself. I jumped straght in at the deep end, no reading or looking for information on the net and it cost me dearly, I only played the cards i was holding, if i had top pair then i'd bet if not then fold, as simple as that, thats how I 1st understood poker. I thought it was all the luck of the cards but couldn't understand why some people such as actionjack had so much luck and I had very little. But I'm slowly improving my game now, and what a buzz it is just bluffin a big pot.  Grin     Welcome mate.                          TJ

Doom is a great game

It's no Half-Life 2, F.E.A.R or Thief 3. Wink

Grosvenor Casinos Website........ Not the best place unfortunately for information. They only update it on a monthly basis and only if you fill in a god awful form.

Freezeout. Double Chance every Sunday 8.45pm make sure you get there before 8.30pm as that is when registration shuts. 44 runners for the first one I believe.

Thanks for the nice replies everyone.

Yogi, if you dont mind me asking, whats the buyin? I've won a couple of 45 man SnGs on stars, and by and large I hear live is frequently softer than online, although I have no personal experience to back this up.

Sounds like it would be great fun.

Ah thanks, sorry. I normally berate people for not using search on my non-poker forums ( I didn't think to look for it to tell the truth - I didn't think that info would be on a forum )

Is this an apt time to use  ?

No excessive berating here. You'll get used to the vast amount of info available

I was an IDDQD, IDKFA fan. Only way I could stay alive on Doom.
