PostgreSQL Server / PokerTracker

Can anyone help with a problem I have with PokerTracker?
I have used PT3 since the start of this year when I purchased a new pc (Windows Vista 64bit) with success.
Each time I load PT I have to restart the PostgreSQL Server manually (not sure why but PT doesn't work without it)
Since a few weeks ago, each time I try this I get the following message:
"Windows could not start the PostgreSQL server 8.3 service on Local Computer.
Error 1053: the service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion"
I have tried upgrading to PostgreSQL Server 8.4 but get the same message
I have also upgraded to build 5.2 of PT which makes no difference
I have also tried google searches but find myself quickly out of my depth of computer knowledge.
any help would be much appreciated as I want to get PT up and running again before I start my SAS trial.

Beyond me too.
Have you disabled UAC on your computer?

might be worthwhile looking in the event viewer to see any other messages about trying to start the service.

gatso you're a star.
My PT hasn't worked for months, since i tried to install an update. Something was blocking Postgres. I searched all over the PT forums, tried countless different things none of which worked. just followed this link and bingo!!
