Everybody is buying digital cameras these days, and megapixels is important.  The more the merrier..!!  high quality cameras can have 10mp or 13mp... super high quality cameras might have 15mp and the price is reflective of that...

Have any of you ever heard of 1474 Megapixels...!!..??

Have a look at this picture, it is the inauguration of Obama and the cameraman wanted to get everybody in.  See how far you can zoom in to pick out faces from the back..!!  Double click a part of the screen to zoom in...

it'd be impressive if you couldn't see the joins where they've stuck the photos together

I'm not saying it's not an impressive pic, it is. just that it ain't a single shot from a 1474 megapixel camera. it's lots of shots stitched together and in the most part done very well, shame they didn't check the whole thing though

well, a 1474 megapixel sensor doesnt exist at the the moment, and doubt if it ever will.

remember kids, the megapixel number is no guarantee of quality. The rest of the optics contribute just as much. Often the really high mp numbers can introduce a lot of noise into the picture, especially on the very small sensors on point and shoot cameras.

Not too sure about this. Give it 5 years and there'll be one somewhere.
