Start off just holding a ball in each hand.

Run all the scans in safe mode. Reboot in safe mode and run them again.

Reboot in normal mode. Run the scans. It takes ages, but it's the only way. Make sure all the scanners are up to date before you start too.

Good stuff. I'd change any critical passwords (pokers, paypal, banking, email) after you've run the following scans in case the malware recorded it and sent it on.
Malware I think is a kind of generic term for viruses that have evil intent, like trying to steal your data or damaging your machine until you buy some phony software.

The other softs I would get are

Avira

http://www.free-av.com/

And Superantispyware

http://www.superantispyware.com/download.html

This one seems really good, picks up some stuff missed by other detectors.

I'd be interested in hearing others suggestions on anti virus programs tho.

I did use a paid for proggie once (zomg!), Norton Anti virus, but it missed some stuff and slowed down my system too much. Freeware ftw!

I would recommend 'combofix' for helping with spyware infections.

this is one of the most effective little programs ive seen yet.

This is a tool that you run manually if you find your'e pc is infected , you would obviously still need to be useing Virus software and have a firewall of some sort.
