Heres mine. Guns N Roses November Rain
When I look into your eyes
I can see a love restrained
But darlin' when I hold you
Don't you know I feel the same
'Cause nothin' lasts forever
And we both know hearts can change
And it's hard to hold a candle
In the cold November rain
We've been through this such a long long time
Just tryin' to kill the pain
But lovers always come and lovers always go
And no one's really sure who's lettin' go today
Walking away
If we could take the time to lay it on the line
I could rest my head
Just knowin' that you were mine
All mine
So if you want to love me
Then darlin' don't refrain
Or I'll just end up walkin'
In the cold November rain
Do you need some time...on your own
Do you need some time...all alone
Everybody needs some time...on their own
Don't you know you need some time...all alone
I know it's hard to keep an open heart
When even friends seem out to harm you
But if you could heal a broken heart
Wouldn't time be out to charm you
Sometimes I need some time...on my own
Sometimes I need some time...all alone
Everybody needs some time...on their own
Don't you know you need some time...all alone
And when your fears subside
And shadows still remain
I know that you can love me
When there's no one left to blame
So never mind the darkness
We still can find a way
'Cause nothin' lasts forever
Even cold November rain
Don't ya think that you need somebody
Don't ya think that you need someone
Everybody needs somebody
You're not the only one
You're not the only one

I'm running away with you
that's all i ever do
that's all we ever mean
i forgive you
everything
meet me at the railroad bar
about 7 oclock
we joke while the sun goes down
watch the lovers
leaving town
This is for lovers
running away
This is for lovers
running away
just for today
I'm running away with you
from yesterday's news
let's leave it all behind
help me back to my mind
I've paid the penalty
your the jailer rattling the key
but the key is mine
I keep a spare one every time
This is for lovers
running away
This is for lovers
running away
just for today
This is for lovers
running away
This is for lovers
running away
just for today
This is for lovers
running away
This is for lovers
running away
just for today
This is for lovers
running away

So many great songs out there with such great Lyrics. Anyone got any great one -liners which stand out? One line that conjours up an immense picture in the mind.
Here are a few of my favourites:
Everybody needs a boosom for a pillow - Cornershop
I'm pushing an elephant up the stairs - REM
A cop knelt and kissed the feet of the priest and the gay threw up at the sight of that - Bowie (five years)
They smelt of pubs and wormwood scrubs and too many right wing meetings - Jam/Weller (down in the tube station) There are so many great lines in this one song that the whole story is great.
Wasn't sure if I should have started a new thread for this, but enjoyed this one so much thought I'd like to see it keep going.

You're The Why
by Ian Dury & The Blockheads
I shuffled through the modes of bad behaviour
And hankered for the desolated dawn
I couldn't cope with yet another saviour
To steer me from the way that I was born
Then like a ton of bricks the dawn descended
Recalcitrance was hurtled to the floor
The citadel lay breached and undefended
You brought a love I'd never known before
I'll want you till the seasons lose their mystery
I'll need you till the birds forget to fly
I'll love you more than anyone in history
Wherever there's a wherefore you're the why
I shuffled through the modes of bad behaviour
And hankered for the desolated dawn
I couldn't cope with yet another saviour
To steer me from the way that I was born
Then like a ton of bricks the dawn descended
Recalcitrance was hurtled to the floor
The citadel lay breached and undefended
You brought a love I'd never known before
I'll want you till the seasons lose their mystery
I'll need you till the birds forget to fly
I'll love you more than anyone in history
Wherever there's a wherefore you're the why

One line
'And in a darkened underpass I thought 'Oh God, my chance has come at last'
Another
'I love you yes I do, and I know that you love a me too'
One more for luck
'And if my day keeps going this way I just might, break yr fxxxxxx face tonight'

'And in a darkened underpass I thought 'Oh God, my chance has come at last'
3 lines from same tune:
"And if a double decker bus, crashes into us, to die by your side is such a wonderful way to die"
"And if a ten ton truck, kills the both of us, to die by your side, well the pleasure, the privilege is mine"
Great choice of tune Nirvana

One of my favorites.... "Windy Town" by Chris Rea
Drivin' down from the Highland line
We done some gigs on the Clyde and the Tyne
They flew us in from the Hamburg strip
The taste of Dusseldorf still on our lips
And on the bus there's a friend of mine
We go way back to the scene of the crime
We sit up front and share a cigarette
And try to remember what we tried to forget
He said "Do you remember?"
He said "Do you recall?"
I said "Yeah, I remember
Oh I remember it all"
Every time the cold wind blows
Every time I hear the sound
Late night train shunting down by the river
I remember windy town
We come so far and we move so fast
Makin' hay see it all go past
Around the world and around again
Up and down on that gravy train
Every time the cold wind blows
Every time I hear the sound
East coast crosswinds on a cold wet stone
I remember windy town
I seen it all before
The freezin' corners and the empty streets
The burnin' passion and the cold wet feet
Three tricky miles home every night
Dodgin' from the shadows underneath those amber lights
No car for kissin' and no where to go
'Cept inside each other and I loved you so
I held your face as you shivered in the rain
Girl I'll always love you and I love you again
Every time
Yeah every time
Every time the cold wind blows
Every time I hear the sound
Late night train shunting down by the river
I remember windy town
Every time the cold wind blows
Every time I hear the sound
East coast crosswinds on a cold wet stone
I remember I remember windy town

One quite appropriate for this thread....
When I was young
I’d listened to the radio
Waitin’ for my favorite songs
When they played I’d sing along
It made me smile
Those were such happy times
And not so long ago
How I wondered where they’d gone
But they’re back again
Just like a long lost friend
All the songs I loved so well
Every sha-la-la-la
Every wo-wo-wo
Still shines
Every shing-a-ling-a-ling
That they’re starting to sing
So fine
When they get to the part
Where he’s breakin’ her heart
It can really make me cry
Just like before
It’s yesterday once more
Lookin’ back on how it was
In years gone by
And the good times that I had
Makes today seem rather sad
So much has changed
It was songs of love that
I would sing to then
And I’d memorize each word
Those old melodies
Still sound so good to me
As they melt the years away
Every sha-la-la-la
Every wo-wo-wo
Still shines
Every shing-a-ling-a-ling
That they’re starting to sing
So fine
All my best memories
Come back clearly to me
Some can even make me cry
Just like before
It’s yesterday once more
Every sha-la-la-la
Every wo-wo-wo
Still shines
Every shing-a-ling-a-ling
That they’re starting to sing
So fine

I am the one in ten
A number unreleased
I am the one in ten
Even though I don`t exist
Nobody Knows me
But I`m always there
A statistical reminder
Of a world that doesn`t care
My arms enfold the dole queue
Malnutrition dulls my hair
My eyes are black and lifeless
With an underprivileged stare
I`m the beggar on the corner
Will no-one spare a dime?
I`m the child that never learns to read
`Cause no-one spared the time
(Chorus)
I am the one in ten .... etc
I`m the murderer and the victim
The licence with the gun
I`m a sad and bruised old lady
In an ally in a slum
I`m a middle aged businessman
With chronic heart disease
I`m another teenaged suicide
In a street that has no trees
(Chorus)
I am the one in ten .... etc
I`m a starving third world mother
A refugee without a home
I`m a house wife hooked on Valium
I`m a Pensioner alone
I`m a cancer ridden spectre
covering the earth
I`m another hungry baby
I`m an accident of birth.
(Chorus)
I am the one in ten .... etc

I've seen the yellow lights go down the Mississippi
I've seen the bridges of the world and they're for real;
I've had a red light of the wrist without me even gettin' kissed
It still seems so unreal.
I've seen the morning in the mountains of Alaska
I've seen the sunset in the east and in the west;
I've sang the glory that was Rome,
And passed the hound dog singer's home;
It still seems for the best.
Chorus
And I'm far, far away
with my head up in the clouds
And I'm far, far away
with my feet down in the crowds
Lettin' loose around the world
But the call of home is loud still as loud
I've seen the Paris lights from high upon Montmartre
And felt the silence hanging low in no mans land;
And all those Spanish nights were fine,
It wasn't only from the wine;
It still seems all in hand.
I've seen the yellow lights go down the Mississippi
The grand Bahama island stories carry on;
And all those arigato smiles
Stay in your memory for a while;
There still seems more to come.
And I'm far, far away
with my head up in the clouds
And I'm far, far away
with my feet down in the crowds
And I'm far, far away
But the sound of home is loud still as loud.

Look out baby
Look out Pet
Here's the kid
Who's gonna get the Blues
When you go away
I'm on fire
Cause I'm in love
With a girl who's not the girl she was
When I was out with her
I saw you in the garden minute
You looked so debonair
Beware of the flowers
Because I'm sure they're gonna get you
Yeah!
I won't try to say goodbye
Maybe I'll just kick myself inside
I really wanted to go home
You might say that today
Was the very last time you walked this way
You'll tell him on your own
Well I'd tell him where to go to baby
But you know I wouldn't dare
Beware of the flowers
Because I'm sure they're gonna get you
Yeah!
Disagree, Disapprove
Baby they all said that it was me
Who went out in the nude
How can you be so sure
Baby when the love shines its pure
It's a light thine shines on us
Well I know someone who loves you baby
And I know he really cares
Beware of the flowers
Because I'm sure they're gonna get you
Yeah!

See the stone set in your eyes
See the thorn twist in your side
I wait for you
Sleight of hand and twist of fate
On a bed of nails she makes me wait
And I wait without you
With or without you
With or without you
Through the storm we reach the shore
You give it all but I want more
And Im waiting for you
With or without you
With or without you
I cant live
With or without you
And you give yourself away
And you give yourself away
And you give
And you give
And you give yourself away
My hands are tied
My body bruised, shes got me with
Nothing to win and
Nothing left to lose
And you give yourself away
And you give yourself away
And you give
And you give
And you give yourself away
With or without you
With or without you
I cant live
With or without you
With or without you
With or without you
I cant live
With or without you
With or without you

I doubt this song will be familiar to anyone....lyrically amazing nonetheless. Listen to the live version if you ever get the chance.
Sarah Mclachlan - VOX
In the desert of my dreams I saw you there
And I’m walking towards the water steaming body cold and bare
But your words cut loose the fire and you left my soul to bleed
And the pain that’s in your truth’s deceiving me, has got me scared
Oh why?
Through your eyes the strains of battle like a brooding storm
Your up and down these pristine velvet walls like focus never forms
My walls are getting wider and my eyes are drawn astray
I see you now a vague deception of a dying day
Oh why?
I fall into the water and once more I turn to you
And the crowds were standing staring faceless cutting off my view to you
They start to limply flail their bodies in a twisted mime
And I’m lost inside this tangled web in which I’m lain entwined
You’re gone and I’m lost inside this tangled web in which I’m lain entwined
Oh why?
