On a lighter note, Baron refers to Tenacious D. These two guys are quite extraordinarily mesmeric. Anyone got any background on them? Visually, I could watch them all night. They are funny without trying, a sort of self-parody. Highly recommended.

On a more serious note, what a beautiful thread this is. And a lot of work by all the posters, to include so many lyrics.

These days, on blonde, I no longer make all the decisions, we share them out, probably a good thing, I'm sure you'll agree. But if it were purely my decision, I'd firstly sticky this thread, then, when it had run it's course, I'd add it to Best of Blonde.

I'll begin by stickying it. If you agree it deseves to be in "Best of Blonde", well, let us know.

And to think I deleted the original one because I thought people would laugh at me.

I am overwhelmed and blown away at the honesty of some of these posts.  It just goes to show that all of us, men and women have a sentimental side to us, and I think it is fantastic for us all to share and see.

This one brings a lump to my throat. It was used as an advert for Tennents Lager when I was doing missionary work in the benighted South (Liverpool). The ad had a guy working in London, just suddenly taking off his tie, chucking the briefcase in a skip & gettting the train to Scotland & going into his local for a beer.

At the time it killed me becasue it made me so homesick. The fact that the lyrics are great as well is a bonus......

Yep - it was Frankie's version in the advert I think - but it was written by Dougie MacLean.

Re National Anthem - I'd love it - no jingoistic call to arms - just an honest love of the country. Mind you - my first choice would be Scots Wha Hae.... which is a direct call to arms

when i was in 6th form, 3 of my friends got hit by a drunk driver and were all killed. they were 17

they had a triple funeral - easily the most emotinal experiece of my life , and in all honesty the saddest
