The lady on Ironside's kneee is called Hannah

I am doing quite well on the pub quiz machine, and Hannah notices. Someone points out I was on Eggheads. A quick screech and a squeal and I get a question wrong. She beckons me over where she is talking to Stallyon.

She's a journalist working for BBC Radio Leeds she says.

Sports journalism

What does she cover? Rugby

Oh, I say, Leeds Rhinos. Top side

Not bloody Northern stuff, she replies, Rugby Union. She being from Hampstead, and up here working

Oh, I say, you must be quite junior then.

Look ensues that would unfreeze glaciers

Conversation stalls. She tells me she is going out with El Hadj Diouf, the Bolton footballer.

I tell her Geremi is the spitting image of him. Joke whooshes her on several levels

I get bored. She tells me to stop looking around when she is talking to me. I am reminded of my ex-wife

I would go back to quiz machine, but Kinboshi has broken it

Am saved by Laxie, who drags her off to the Ladies

I spend next hour in hiding
