Come back and say this again, when its your kids or your friends kids that get molested by someone this law could have stopped.

anything to do with child abuse is a step in the right direction!

The world (not just the best country in the world) is absolutely riddled with peado's these days, its sick!

Oh boy.

This.

20% seems ridic and I'd like to see the statistics behind that claim.

I will give you my own mini stats though. There are 3 women that work at my depot 2 /3 HAVE been abused as youngsters by a close family member, the third chose not to comment. Unlucky? or just out spoken. I'll leave that for you to decide.

Every accident, every crime that is committed, every bad thing that happens in this country, they're not all causes for new preventative legislation to be introduced.

The argument if it stops one child getting abused it must be a good thing argument can be strong. "Who wouldn't mind filling in an extra form now and then to prevent x,y and z happening" (with x, y and z all being shockingly bad things happening to the kiddies obv)

It's a bit of a fallacy as far as I'm concerened though. In fact, it pisses my life off because our politicians seem to be in love with it and our blame culture fuelled by the news media seem to thrive off it too.

My problem with it is that it assumes that the other side of the coin is just a little inconvienece, and not other factors (some of which have already been mentioned) which are impossible to quantify.

It's like all health and safety legislation. For example the rule kids have to wear lifejackets on school trips if they are anywhere near water even if they're just out for a walk and not even sniffing a canoe. It's all very well to say that some kid drowned in Plymouth last year so it's a little inconvience to stop it happening again somewhere else.
The cumulative effect of too much legislation though, fosters an attitude in kids where they don't look out for their own welfare enough. They walk about like they're impervious to danger. Like no harm can befall them because the sharp things are all in the locked drawer, the nasty chemicals are no longer used in the building and all the cars outside are all doing 10 mph past zig zaggy bumpywumps. They wander off cliffs in Stonehaven thinking it's not dangerous because if it was someone would have put a barrier there. There's a solution to this problem and no it's not to put barriers up along the perimeter of Great Britain's shores. It's to have kids grow up in an enviroment where they're not covered in cotton wool, and if they do stupid shit without thinking they get hurt. (btw, I'm sure you can imagine that having our kids learn common sense and encouraging them to think for themselves might have other fringe benefits)

While we're on the subject of fallacies...

Having kids doesn't change your politics, and it's certainly wrong to believe that people who disagree with these new measures care less about kids than people who do.

I don't give a shit if the driver of the school bus has been screened by some government agency, and the flip side of that is that I don't assume that the driver of the school bus is ok and not worth worrying about just because he has been screened.
Interaction with the people who are in contact with your kids and making your own judjements ftw. Obv in conjunction with taking an interest in what they've done each day.

So all we have is "Someone who works in the industry told my sister and she told me so it must be true, the world is riddles with peados and abused kids so draconian legislation must be introduced"

Doesn't fly with me...not without seeing some stats.

No one can stop it, screening or not, my answer is simple, it wont stop it but will give help identifying one , once one is caught brand the fkr with a hot iron on their forehead.
