Its obviously important that children should be educated about not talking to strangers etc but I think that's about as far as it should go at that young age.
Telling them about paedophiles at that age will do nothing but give them nightmares

To get back to the original thread, there cannot be enough checks on people who are caring for our kids in schools/clubs/hospitals etc.
Most child abuse was found in the immediate family but as kids have become more aware through school etc paedophiles are obviously having to find new targets.
I think 20% could be about right.
Im guessing you guys dont have kids?
No i don't have kids Suzanne, I just can't imagine any parent wanting their kids to be exposed to songs about paedophilla in anyway shape or form. If there was a 100k to be spent, I would want it spent on checks/enforcement of the law etc. Kids under the age of 10 are going to have no idea what you are talking (singing?) about and why should they? They are too young to understand and I can only see it upsetting them.
I was a school teacher for a couple of years and went through checks myself, so am aware of some of the issues. One of the first thing I was told was never put myself in a situation where any false accusation could be made. As there are hundreds upon, upon hundreds of accusations made against teachers every year of which less than 5% are found to have any grounds for punishment whatsoever.
The idea of tank getting his guitar out and playing to primary school kids, I found very amusing, as imo it is a ridiculous idea.
First of all let me say that spending 100K on tank singing around schools as you say is a ridic idea...his face would scare the kids off FFS.
I did however think the idea of singing to kids with a message wasnt such a bad idea. My 5 years old neice knows the "Bone Song" word perfect.
When I was a kid it was drummed into me not to talk to strangers for all the good it did me . Perhaps a song sung each day in the classroom with the right words would encourage kids to speak out when something is not "right".
Does it really sound so ridiculous?

I would think one or two would suffice.

This doesn't make any sense. Most child abuse was found in the immediate family, as you say, but how do peadophiles have to find new targets because kids have become more aware through schools? I thought the "Don't tell mommy or I will hurt her" line was the most effective one for peados? (might be that I've just seen too many cop shows though)

I really don't know where this 20% comes from.

No I don't but I'd like to think that when/if I ever have kids it won't take away my reasoning or induce some form of hyper-paranoia about these things.
I also hope I will never utter the "I take it you don't have kids"line when someone disagrees with me about something to do with kids.

Wow this got a bit hot.
Sc Dave,
Not too sure if you misinterpreted a post I made as it seems to be blank, but I have gone over and over for how these sickos can be somehow identified and there is no way apart from like I said before, once caught brand them, but that will never happen.
Celtic...
Answer to your question. A while back a team meeting was held to discuss ways in which Stacey could get help as she was never granted much help for the reasons that we assume was that Reece's illness is not that common. Therefore there is no text book guidelines to follow. But this team said hang you should be getting this that and the other, one thing was respite care for Reece. Now there is no way on this earth that that lad is going to anyone strange, a, for reasons like this thread and b, because he is ours and ours alone, we want to take care of him. So I was be be his respite carer, that is why I had to be screened. It also meant that I would receive a payment for having him on the nights I did, this however, has never transpired. Obv he has lived here on and off anyway, that was never a problem, my statement was to say how they screened me because he would , lets say be officailly in my care on certain night, but not Darren.
One guy got the sack at work for uploading child porn. He got the sack but got a job at Flamingo Land after his court conviction.

Morning Boldie.
Kids grow up thus become too old for a peado to be interested. Then they find their new targets. Maybe the awareness through school is making them more confident to get the hell out of the way, OR quite possible that it becomes aware that NO, Daddy, Uncle bob, Grandad etc.. doing this is not normal and I don't have to do this at all.
Anyway off back to the fun threads enjoy...

what is the barometer for measuring a country's greatness? have you assessed this impartially or are you saying it because you're patriotic and would probs say the same about fiji, iceland or spain if you lived there also?
I cant say what country is the best, id be surprised if it was the UK though.
It must be the best - a lot of people seem to want to come here!

How good are you on the guitar, before I let my opinion been known on this matter.
I'm more of a fiddler tbh, but that idea was a non starter for some reason.

If society had endless funds I would agree that spending millions to protect 'one child' would be fine.
The fact is we don't live in an ideal world. A balance is required.

It's not only about money, it's about civil liberty.
Gun laws only prevent law abiding people from having guns, not the criminals.
These new screening laws wont stop the paedophiles, but they will cause a lot of ordinary well meaning people a lot of unnecessary expense and inconvenience.
IMHO of course.

An estimated 11mill people will need to be checked apparently;..but if we say this is not the correct figure and even half this that would be 6mill;
6mill x £40'ish pounds = MBN
Cost per check;

Agree with you red however for me it is about money.
A total waste of money on this when people can't get treated for illnesses because its not 'cost effective'

You must have a point.
I said it wasn't about the money, but I went on to say,
