So my new job is in birmingham and i will have to be there monday to thursday every week. I am looking to get a flat in the city centre. Anyone live there? Which are the best city blocks? Or does anyone need a part time flat mate?

No specific details but Birmingham has a surplus of city centre flats, you will have no problem finding one to rent I would imagine. Me and a few mates booked one earlier in the year instead of getting a hotel when we to the darts and that was in a pretty decent area near the NIA and broad street.

It is quite ironic that all the luxury apartments and flats in Birmingham are surrounded by the roughest areas. When I say rough, I mean that crime isn't even reported about there, Ladywood has lots of guns and knife crime daily but unfortunately all the nice apartments are built around it.
There is a relatively new apartment block in Broadway Plaza which is less than 20 metres from the Broadway Casino but it is in the middle of two rival gangs the result is that it is a battleground there. (sounds medieval lol)
The other end of Broad Street is closer to town and there are some apartments/flats named "The Cube" which are nice, but again the area isn't too nice between Hockley and Ladywood.
In the middle of Broad Street is Brindley Place, that is very nice but again area lets it down but at least it is a gated community, same goes for The Mailbox.
The Arcadian has some nice apartments but Hurst Street is rough lol, in the centre of China Town and the Gay quarter.
If anyone offers you a flat in the Centinnals tell them to GTFO
Bloody hell, I am painting a great picture here lmao

Guy, welcome mate! You've made a good choice. I lived in a flat in the centre of town last year, great place to be.
Some of the new flat have been built a mile or two from the centre of town towards the rougher areas, so are probably best avoiding. (True also to avoid Broadway Plaza)
However, the centre of Brum is way nicer than people believe, and will feel completely safe. Basically, you're spolit for choice. I would choose between:
-The Radisson hotel- there are flats on the highest floors (the name of the development escapes me). They're smaller than others, but the views are amazing.
- Centenary Plaza- The biggest development of flats, not far from Broad Street.
-The Orion Building- a big, modern developement, right close to the centre, actually right next to the Gala Casino.
-The Mailbox- is overpriced, but very nice flats, and at the top of the swish Mailbox bulding.
If I had to recommend one, it would be the Orion Building.
Anyway, keep in touch. If you fancy seeing the best nightspots, we'll show you those too!

What about the appartments in and around Summer Row?
(apologies if someone's mentioned them already)

I'd ditch the City Centre and get a place in somewhere like Sutton Coldfield or Edgbaston. You'll get a place twice the size in a better area. I can get you your own house in South Woodgate for 4 nights a week no contract if that area is any good to you. If you want to be shown around the live poker scene drop me a line.

2 bedrooms, fitted kitchen, good motorway links, close proximity to local amenities.

Try to get in one of the apartment blocks near to Spearmint Rhino. Quite a few of the strippers have places there to stay for the weekend while they're at work.
There's nothing quite like the sight of a stripper nipping out to fetch her mail in her scanties.

Thanks for the help guys - thats great.
I have just started looking now.
I want to be in the city because i dont really want to be away from home and commuting too - that would finish me off!
I am really not bothered about 'size' of place - location as close to Colmore Row is top priority. A car parking spot would seal the deal.
Stu/Mantis - thanks for the offers - once I am settled into the city i will take you both up on your kind offers!
Cheers
Guy
