Its looking pretty good for the Tories in the election at the mo, any idea what their general stance on gambling/online gambling is? I'm sure if you asked David Cameron right now he would say he would love it, good for the economy etc but my gut tells me they will have a much more archaic approach if and when they get in.

Don't know about online - I'm well out of touch with politics these days. Was it not the tories though that scuppered the plans for the super-casinos a couple of years ago?

They opposed it but that's what the Official Opposition are meant to do.

I don't think they scuppered it though - I think it was just a Labour U Turn

Is there any difference between the tories and labour at the moment?  I doubt they're miles apart on this issue to be honest.

No it was unelected do-gooders in the Lords that scuppered it (it needed an statutory instrument) - then Gordon Brown went all meh about it.  The Tories could have blocked the Gambling Act as it was running out of time before the last election but agreed to let it through (with the super casinos cut from 8 to 1), so its unlikely that they will make any changes imo.

I've completely lost track of everything to do with politics since they canned spitting image.

That was the greatest educational program ever.

How many people now actually recognise politicians? Back then I could name them all.

If any of the politicians had an ounce of personality they would bring back spitting image. But a show mocking a bunch of boring old farts would suck pretty badly, so they dont.

I thought that Brown's speech at the Labour Conference yesterday was very impressive in both delivery and content.

It reminded me of a test batsman on a run of low scores who knows that he must have a big innings or be dropped.

I thought he passed the test with flying colours and feel that he could possibly turn public opinion around as Cameron comes across to me as rather glib and shallow by comparison to Brown's apparent sincerity and dedication to the cause.

I also thought that Vince Cable came across very well indeed in his keynote speech a week or so back but it seems as though the Lib-Dem supporters bottle it when it comes to actually voting and vote for one of the other two at the polls.
