Agree with this! I finally installed W7 today (academy (free) licence FTW  Cheesy ) and so far I'm loving it, very slick, very easy to use and just all round lovelyness.

As for XP support - yes that will stop next year, and yes you should think about upgrading soon after that support ends.

As for techy people saying hang on to XP rather than upgrading... well I think it's time to upgrade the techy people you speak to!

the only thing that was bugging me about 7 was the disappearance of the 'show desktop' button but I've just now found where it is so I'm all happy

Why am I working now?

Appears Windows 7 is the nuts, but will be able to downgrade to XP, but this is gonna have to be 64bit as Office will eventually be 64bit, but if you downgrade they wont support properly after April?

What's better about Snow Leopard?

I'm using just Leopard and I don't see how it could be improved

I'm no expert on W7 yet, but from what I understand the easiest way to do it is to upgrade to the same edition.

So for you it should be Vista ultimate = W7 ultimate. Of course that doesn't mean you can't use the professional edition for instance, but from what I gather you will have to the do a clean install (which is what I had to do).

As for where to get the upgrade, I'll let someone else answer the best place to obtain it, as I was lucky to get my copy via MSDN.

Developers Network. But close Smiley.

I downloaded it from MSDN a few weeks ago, and I have to say I think it's a triumph of marketing. There really isn't that much improvement over Vista (which I think is fine, generally, apart from the UAC crapness). The way W7 is now the best thing since sliced bread is impressive marketing, to say the least.
