Some good points
As ever the essential problem is the attitude to customers and the non customer facing culture of the place. Indeed a lot of the casinos in the group
I see a cap working week after week in various comps at DTD. Players arrive on time, competitions start to the second, breaks operate to the second. Not a self deal in sight.
However comparing a casino owned card-room to DTD is not comparing like for like I suppose
If the G Luton is unprepared to staff for over 100 runners (and its been at 100 for a couple of weeks now) then, in the absence of a culture change, you need to cut the competition's scope (via cap) to fit the cloth (resource) you've got
No longer will I think the excuse that they've "unexpectedly" got over 100 runners, therefore here you go 3-4 self deal tables, be valid
As an aside, 130 players in the room last night, 2 valets. The whole thing is being run on a shoestring. In their favour, it does appear that a majority of the players don't care about the service offered as a whole, just want a game

^^^^^ is a big part of it.
What is refreshing (apart from the fact that mgmt don't view it as a desirable problem to have) is that only a month or two ago we were having 18 runner tournys with no value. Weds night showed that there still is demand to get 100+ in midweek. Rather than seeing that as encouraging and attempting to lock up 100+runner events every night, mgmt just see it as a PITA.

The economics are surely all wrong in casino card rooms and I can easily see why this becomes a pain to the floor staff.
120 runners = £650 in reg fees, I'd be pretty certain that when you take all the costs into account that the reg fees don't cover the running costs of the room.
Perhaps 80% of the players only take the complimentary drinks and I see some pretty ungenerous tipping.
Quite a large number won't play pit games or cash games that generate rake. There may be 25% or so of the players that subsidise the rest and make it possible for the casino to only charge a £5.50 reg fee.
Overall I remain surprised that for £5 - £10 I can expect at least a couple of hours entertainment on average. If I occasionally have to self deal to support a larger comp I'd take that as a small price for the many hours of cheap (and occasionally profitable) entertainment.
It really is incredibly cheap to play poker. It is easy to draw parallels with DTD but as is fairly widely known, that is not a sustainable business proposition even with casino type complimentaries being charged - eg cup of tea for £1.70
Overall, the economics don't work and imo, the more we moan, the less likely it is we will be listened to and the more likely the costs will go up.
Personally, I'd rather pay 20% juice and ensure it was fully dealer dealt - most people wouldn't like that, so a few self deal tables to ensure the max number can enter seems a good compromise to me.

120 runners = £650 in reg fees,
120 x £5.50 = £660. The economics will look wrong if the maths to support it is wrong.
Now let's get back to moaning.

I am sorry but if this building belonged to you I would bet it would make a far larger profit. For example you could get players in early and do a meal deal......what is the profit on food and drink exactly. Pretty good if my memory serves me right. 120 runners turn up for a poker comp and only 4 of them ate in the restaurant.
Don't get me started on profitability. funny how the tea machine was bust last night. Please be aware that I was regularly told that a £50 comp would have to be dealer dealt. You don't get partially pregnant but you do get a partially dealer dealt comp.
Also I have paid this month £5.50 to self deal in small tournies three times. No problem. All were doing the same. It was up front and clear. What I got on Wednesday was not.

Totally agree that a bit of consistency would work better for most and did wonder about the coffee machine last night

That's it, we is up to date, unless anyone needs one added in for last night?
Also, please let me know if you need one adding in for tonight also.
Sir Donksalot has refused to return to a figure for July, so has been put down for 14. Away from his numbers petulance, he enjoyed a good month, finishing as top scorer. Sigh.
Top May points scorer - Snatiramas
Top June points scorer - Gamblor
Top July points scorer - Sir Donksalot
Three are currently detached at the bottom...
