A little harsh after I showed you just how to be serious at the table on Thursday night

Ok then,time for a confessional...
5 years ago give or take a bit, i entered a my first ever live comp at Stanley Skinpot and somehow managed to take it down.Have been around gambling all my life, and won and lost small fortunes but this was different,it was to me the ultimate in competition a completely different buzz than the rush of winning or losing that playing the tables or slots gave me.
I was hooked ,and as my ocd kicked in to yet another life consuming habit, i yearned for information and the tools that would help me advance in this wonderfull game.
I became a regular at the old Grovesnor in Bury Park in the sat afternoon comps, and the sunday afternoon mayhem, and also the tues night 100 runner special, and looking back now, what a place to learn how to play cards! My god it was tough, tough on the mind, any mistakes were scowled at by the regulars whilst self dealing,at one point it was so unforgiving, that like many i nearly gave up as it was such a brutal environment to be in when being such a rookie, and just trying to get a foothold amongst my peers, but the competitive juices kicked in and i stuck it out and started to get just enough results to keep the faith and hang in there.
At around this time i was lucky enough to meet Mr.Poker himself Graham Rodgers,i cannot stress enough just how gratefull i am to him for the tireless hours he listened to my question after question, the hands we played out,the support and advice he gave me,without that i would have given up when i had the now all too fa milliar bad runs that drive you almost insane.
I gave myself a 5 year plan to learn the game at the lower levels and then if good enough, try my luck at the higher stakes should the bankroll allow.
Well the game has changed many times since then, and my style has had to change with it in order to keep up with the new breed of players that come and go,but one thing i have allways kept true to is a basic solid game.My patience is my biggest asset,no question.Im not blessed with attracting chips in tournys till the latter stages, never have done, never will do,end of story.
Thats not a problem, ive just adapted a way of playing that suits me.Id love to be like the Gary Banks of this world trust me,smashing flops, making moves but it simply doesnt suit my style, ive tried it and i just look like a fool in the car park on the way home at 25/50 level at 9.20.
What ive learned is that poker reflects life more than most people can imagine, everyone starts both life and a tourny on a levelish playing field, but some will be winners, most will be losers, but by adapting to your surroundings you can tilt the balance back in your favour imo.
You cannot be something that you are not,so adapt a game that suits you and that you are comfortable with,i have the utmost respect for people like MDD,theyve been around for years cashing regularly,ok he`s not tv table exciting material ,neither am i but what do you want from the game?
Is the money your incentive?the respect of your peers?id take MMD`S results over most new style flop monkeys returns,he may not have much"game" but how many of the flop monkeys will be here in a year?
Imo most poker players are not honest with themselves,i take the grind to new levels of anal retention,i count the number of hands played at my table, the number of hands i would have one if calling with the garbage that many seem to think are premium starting hands nowadays.I know most players think im barmy doing this but it works for me and as i hope to go up the ladder in the poker world, then why change what works for you?
Ive forgotten what the question you even put to me was Chompy, but i feel much better after that!
Blah blah, all very interesting I'm sure but what I've always wanted to know is 'do you dye your hair love ?'

By the way, to my knowledge two newish blonde members have named themselves after Chompy's nicknamage - Rockstar is very new - who is the other ?
Adrain, good points about MDD and having a game plan, really more and more convinced that this game isn't necesaarily about trying to adopt all the latest 'optimal' poker thinking but more about slight adaptations to ones own game plan. Self awareness, as you point out, has just got to be the most important thing and if your not a fist pumping, rimmiing, peeling, dancing sort then no point trying to be. I'm trying to work on this 'know thyself' stuff at the moment

I refuse to take any criticism about my appearance from the neanderthal collection of tramps that frequent the G casino.

A career day for the Luton Blondey League today imo, and I'm delighted to announce that British Gas, Luther and Rockstar (not my nickname this one) have provisionally been accepted by the elders for League 2010 status. If they want in of course.

Be a nightmare to keep on top of imo Ding. It's hard enough getting a sensible figure out of the likes of Anthony and Sir Donkeys just for Luton G tourneys. Imagine if it was nationwide? Yikes!
Are you officially out of retirement now? Should I reinstate you back into the league table?

I thought you had left... I stopped attending Luton on that basis, I mean with you and Tikay not going as often all the value had dried up!
Joking apart, I'm pleased you decided to to give up, giving up... If you get what I mean.

I'm not back at Luton - too much temptation from the gambling machines and not enough quality poker. I don't want to give up poker but would rather play deepstacks rather than forever having my tournament life being decided by flips ten mins into a comp.

News just in...27 runners tonight. A big step up on what they have been getting on Mondays imo.
Any leaguers among them? Don't think so but time may reveal a different story.

You've been around so long Drainy, you is part of the furniture.
It goes without saying you will be
propping up
in the league next season.
