I find it amusing how some people think a certain way of playing is right, they never evolve or take time to learn...they just play exactly the same way year after year and become open books and sit and wonder how they never win.... and just blame bad beats for their lack of success

Interesting 15 mins or so catching up on proceedings everyone, thanks for that. Who needs Vegas on a friday night when the luton g thread turns into a soap opera Smiley.

Just completed my second deepstack tournament of the week....(would have played more but hangovers and one particularly painful drunken blackjack session proved barriers). For those of you who arn't familiar with the Venetian deepstacks, they are $340 tournaments which seem at the moment to attract 400-500 runners each day, thus creating some fairly hefty prizepools. I could quite happily stay here for a month playing them; the structure is great, I would charactarise the average player to be 'not as good as they think they are'... in other words they have some experience but are generally easy to stay one step ahead of.

My first tournament I never really got going in- was damaged in a lost flip to a shortstack, then forced to raise fold vs tight players a few times. I felt I was getting beaten up after this had happened a few times (whereas on reflection I am almost certain the raisers had hands), and a spot arose where I raised 1010 from mid, got two callers, and the laggiest lag of a BB squeezed it up, basically giving me a decision for the tourn. I ship, he has KK, no bink, time to get drunk.

I played my second tournament today, and decided to rock it up. I barely played a hand for hours, probably looked like I was falling asleep, whilst making a catelogue of the table's plays. The result was a enjoyable tight image, which I don't think i've ever had in my life, and a knowledge of what the table was capable of. Luckily the table didn't get split for hours, and I was able to use my groundwork effectively.

One interesting hand I made vs the player I considered to be the most able on the table. The blinds had risen to 200-400, i had about 18-20k, and I had decided that the time had come to loosen up a bit, so I raised to 1200 UTG with   . The decent player, who incidentally was the table chip leader, flatted from mid. The rest of the table snap folded. Flop comes  Two Diamonds two hearts , and I lead for about 2.2k. ("Look at me, I have aces kings or queens, i raised UTG, obv.") The decent player had consistantly popped in position when he considered that he had the best hand, so I expected to find out whether he had the premium Ax's or a pair from his action. He raised to 5.5ish, taking just long enough in his decision for me to have downgraded the possibilities from the premium pairs- I had narrowed it down to 99 at the worst or JJ at the best. Based on the confidence I had in my read, the knowledge that he was a decent player (but he had no reason to believe I was anything more than just a nit) and that it would be a pretty crippling blow to his stack if he called me, I shoved. I would actually prefer to make this move with AK than 55, but I was very confident that he would need queens to call, and that he didn't have them. After a sweat he folded, building my stack nicely. He told me that he had folded Jacks, and seemed to believe me completely when I admitted that I would have loved a call, as I had queens.

That table remained reletively similar, no stand-out players, an excellent table to plug along with, and it helped me a lot still having a tight image as the blinds were rising. I stayed consistantly above average stack, then had the set up that poker players dream of; the one you feel like hugging yourself every time you think about it- the poker equivalent of a thick duvet on a cold night. 500/1000 blinds, I had about 30k, the player from the last hand raised to 2800 from early pos, and somehow got 4 callers before it arrived to me in the BB, looking down at   . I obv put in a hefty raise, and one lady decides she has value to put the rest of her chips in with the   . 9 on the flop, turn brings a heart flush draw and the river... a beautiful   Smiley weeeeee.

That hand brought me up to 70k, and before too long my beautiful table was split. I lost a few chips 3 betting AK pre then folding to a flop-bet (he showed jacks). So was on around 55k going into the 7 o clock dinner break. Some delicious bites in Cafe Lux later I was ready to ship the tourn. 450 players down to 90 and with a few impressions of my reletively new table mates.

And why am I back in the hotel room writing this up instead of playing down to the final table? My uncanny ability to get   in vs   preflop (for just under 30bb) and my esteemed opponent's uncanny ability to bink the hell out of the flop. He had more chips than me, and I was left with the empty, slightly confused, someone-just-shot-my-dog feeling. 8 hrs of intense thought processes and concentration well spent imo. Fml.

Despite the heartache I have to say I would thoroughly recommend these deepstack tourns to Luton players- great structure, not great standard, beautiful cardroom, excellent staff, skimpy waitress outfits etc etc. Leaving Vegas on Sunday is going to be hard.

Congrats to Keith who's out here at the moment, getting down to final 2 tables of yesterday's $340 deepstack, making a nice profit. I have no doubt he'll take one down before the end of the trip!

Edit: just realised how long this post is- i hope only those interested in my progress out here wasted their time ploughing through it Smiley

Different Keith?

Good stuff Mr Sighmuns, keep it coming imo.

PS, fillet mignon, rosenblum and a couple of Newcastle Browns at the Grand Lux ftw.

It's Das.

Yes - but I don't know who that is. Thats the problem. You may be unaware of this but my facial recognition skills are not as good as they should be apparently...

Das is the short Indian fellow who chases flush draws no matter the cost

Not been on for a few days and hmm i thought i'd kicked off a debate with the infamous top 5, 6, 7, 8 ,9 Gazzillion players at Luton.

In Phils Defence am i missing something??? The Player with the best hand hets it in 70,80 even 90 percent in front gets sucked out on when whatever numpty cant pass his lower suted connecter's rag ace to over pair etc and they suddenly become a good player or wp.....   Yes i realise now where im going wrong!!!!!

SUCK MY BALLS!!!!!

If you don't know why someone sits across the table fuming about your good fortune then your a full time donk and a shoe in for WPIL.

and I agree with Gman if I want to tell you your a luckboxfishdonkWPIL I will and you can suck my balls too.

and if that offends you guess what.  I am still playing with the money I won off you the last time your luck didn't win you a miracle against me...... so I have the last laugh. MWAHAHAHAHAHA

Much respect to the people who know the difference between poker and bingo. aka snats, gman and the others.

Wow, what a final table! There was Tikay, Tighty, Snatimaras, but there were some good players too. Dave Johnson, Gary Banks, Chompy. Quality personified it was.
Snatty and Tighty each played at least one hand each during the final, in between chats about rugby, and 5pts and 7pts respectively mean they now sandwich Celtic. A pleasing image imo.
Tikay had more hands than MDD during an average week but could only fumble his way into third. His 9pts take him above the all-important top-nine line, though, and leaves Lucky with a bit of work to do to get back among the elite.
12pts for yours truly take me above Winkie and Simon G, into a healthy fourth and one step nearer to seeing Sir Donkalot taking a Mr Benn-like trip to the Enfield Clowns'R'Us store in around seven months' time.

League table from May... Chompy 81 me 3

Young Alex's hot streak shows no signs of coming to an end, another fourth carrying him into the unheard-of four point somethings (at least until the tournaments are added in at the end of the month). Maybe still even then at this rate.
He splits future league possibles Handsome Paul (name change required please) and GMan. Well done to Span(f)ish for taking it down.

Congrats to Keith who's out here at the moment, getting down to final 2 tables of yesterday's $340 deepstack, making a nice profit. I have no doubt he'll take one down before the end of the trip!

Different Keith?

Good stuff Mr Sighmuns, keep it coming imo.

PS, fillet mignon, rosenblum and a couple of Newcastle Browns at the Grand Lux ftw.

Todays league table..even if i do lose now..iv'e still won

I dont know who da nemessis is, but his language speaks about himself, his attitude and character.  As I said earlier, I dont mind being called by any name as long as I am enjoying my game. I know more people with whom I enjoy the game in Luton and have fun, rather than some exception like you whom my herat and soul says to ignore. You are free to think what you like sir. (Not sure if sir is the right salutation here)

Thomas took down the 15-runner £10 rebuy last night but it doesn't qualify. Again, looking forward to the 2010 comp, I think the only Saturday result that should be included is the £30 Bounty thingy. Anyone disagree with that?

Good idea for the Saturday comp chunky. Have you added on your backdated bonus points for new years day yet?  Or was that done a while ago?
